Having just sold my N/a, and already regretting it and wanting a new one, was looking at the option buying a turbo and removing the turbo.

Considering in the current market it is certainly possible to find an r33 s1 turbo man coupe from 6-9k where as a decent non turbo is 9k plus....

Only due to new p plate laws as simply the turbo is a better car, better brakes, transmission, engine, (and diff??) 5stud hubs aswell.

Would it be possible to buy a clean r33 turbo for 8k... buy an rb25de for 500? (i saw an rb25de inc gearbox for 600 on these forums)

Selling the old turbo motor and turbo for atleast enough to cover the cost of the rb25de and installation.

Ending up with a N/a skyline for cheaper than an n/a and would be far superior to a standard n/a??

Obviously the reason for this would be as I will be going onto the new (bullshit) restrictions of no turbos, and i can not justify spending 10k on an n/a!! for anyone who thinks an r33 n/a manual coupe s1 is worth almost 10k(price i sold mine for) is crazy!!

Any thoughts on the topic would be greatly appreciated

(yes i tried to search)

for example (to give you guys an idea on prices)

R33 gtst manual turbo for 9grand

the car not only has a turbo it also has Custom paint job and various other mods

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/19...Na-t239341.html

Mine too on these forums(cbf finding link) was priced the same completely stock and non turbo

Mine sold within the first day of listing on carsales, this guy has had his listed almost a month and not yet sold.

ps (hope the guy does not mind me using his car as an example)

mate, this is a no brainer. what kind of response are you expecting from people?

if you cant justify $10K for an NA car, then you probably shouldn't do the conversion. i would guess that you would end up spending a lot more doing so.

i'm not taking a stab at you here, but it just seems like that you are merely seeking our approval to go ahead with it.

go do a bit of homework, price up the cost of a GTST, then how much an RB25DE would be, then go find out how much you can sell the RB25DET. get a quote on an NA differential and all the associated labour costs. don't forget the ECU, engineering, mod plate, extractors, exhaust, air conditioning re-gas, etc.

if you plus and minus all those figures and your end total is under $10K then you have your answer!

we'll let this thread run for a little longer

Sorry mate, i think i have worded the question wrong.

Firstly i wasnt saying i cant justify 10k for an na car, what i meant basically was I couldnt justify spending the same on an N/a as a turbo one costs(with added feautures) if you get what i mean??

I wasn't trying to get approval to do it, i more was looking towards finding out what needs to be done

somethings you have listed are; engineering and a mod plate, ecu, what would need to be engineered? basically isnt it just a straight engine swap (to the same motor type) just without a turbo?

you mention an NA diff.. would a N/A motor fit with a Turbo gearbox and diff?

The exhaust system is an obvious one althought thats only looking at a few hundred..

Covered. Several times.

THe compression ratio is simply not worth it.

As soon as you start farting around with taking the engine apart, you may as well of payed for a DE for $1100 and sold the DET for $1800.

AND you come up trumps.

I suppose in some ways it even makes sence. GTST's are cheaper, and you get a better fuel pump, all the turbo bits (brkes, LSD, 'box etc.) and a couple of hungie to play with at the end.

Low comp NA and your getting the worst of both worlds. No power. No responce. So you would have to go DE conversion. On question left is:

Can you do it yourself and save on labour costs?

    • Dredgggggeeee time; I have recently finally started driving the car. It sat for so long that the fuel tank gave birth to rust sludge and blocked my lift pump sock and one of my walbro 460's and left grime, rust chunks and muck all through the surge tank and system. I decided to commit and pull the trigger on an oem r32 gtr fuel tank and Frenchys twin 460 / sender / surge tank hanger combo and all new larger lines and fittings etc, also boost doc heater hose kit / new heater core and a heap of other bits and shits like wideband sensor installed in the dump and Syltech iacv + lines and all wired and added to current tune. now having lightly driven it a couple times without issue, I can happily report on the hta3076 in its current tune. still no boost control switched on, 20psi gate springs, car makes 22psi at 3200rpm in 6th gear with 30-50% TPS from cruise at 100kmh. Going by the old graph, this means it should be making 300-325whp at the same numbers above. Very very responsive setup under true road driving loads. all that's left for the build is body loom + PDM, finish the remote aircon setup, install carbon fibre parts and go for full tune and 30psi. the 315 rear tyres are now performing like they're 195's, wheel spin in any gear at almost any rpm, whereas my previous setup hooked up in 3rd no issue, albeit Nt01's back then / RB25 5spd vs (new) old date r888r's Z34 6spd now, + obviously all the support upgrades I listed in the quoted post above. car sits at 1-3psi on cruise at 100kmh, expectations totally exceeded and I'm beyond stoked with all this so far. • I've also been eyeing their rear axles for my car. I purchased seat mounts from them about 7 years ago and they were hot garbage so I've been a little wary about purchasing them. With that being said, please buy them and get back to us haha.
    • Can a moderator please move this into the right category.. I've accidently put this into racing build thread 🤦🏽‍♂️
    • Being a manual, we very quickly ordered new R34 gearbox (From Nissan) and remaining parts from Kudos motorsports. Would highly recommend the team there. Ultra helpful and quick to share advice and upgrades. We are in the middle of taking the Auto out (Genuine 94,000/kms) and putting the Manual in this weekend. Part 2 of the build will include likely a Plazaman Intercooler and Plenium, Hks Exhaust with Tomei Dump (ordered).
