Ok I've spent some time reading through the forums but I havent' heard of anyone upping the base timing. Is it worth upping the base timing a little to accomodate the BP98 and would it make any difference if I did up the BASE timing?

I assume that the standard timing of 15 deg already requires the best possible petrol. My suggestion is that any extra advance should be done only with the use of reliable knock detection gear (usually only found with dyno operators - i am after some myself but it seems you need to spend the $1100 for the K-mon or suchlike). You can easily destroy your motor with excessive advance.

Ideally you need an aftermarket computer or at least an Apexi SITC so that you can adjust the timing at several points in the rev range. I've got a SITC but I will have to get it tuned on a dyno until I can get my own quality knock detector.

upping the base timing by 3 degrees made a big difference on mine . rs four s .made it pull hard all the way through and got rid of a noticable flat spot when the vct turns off. cant remember exact rpm.

Well as it turns out my base timing was set at 10 degrees. No wonder the thing felt dead. I've now upped it to 15 degrees and it's like driving a different car. If I were blindfolded and drove the car before and after I would definately not believe it was the same vehicle. I have now also guttet the cat  I mean, replaced with HIGH flow cat lol. and removed the mufflers and fitted a cannon. With those two mods it made a fair difference too. Noticable for seat of your pants driving anyway.

    • Duncan is correct. Pitwork (and Toyota's own cheap brand "Drive Joy") were primarily created as brands to sell other manufacturers car parts. It would be weird if Nissan sold parts for Toyota vehicles with a Nissan logo on it, so they created Pitwork to sell parts for other brans Toyota, Honda etc. They are not the same as Nissan genuine parts, although they *do* meet Nissan's standards for replacement parts. They aren't supposed to be a substitute for genuine parts, but a cheaper alternative that is better than Ebay fake parts from you-know-where.

    • I _think_ that one has a christmas tree or some other retainer spike into a hole in that panel under it. Come in under it with thin scredrivers and just pry it gently up. If you rip the ears off the retainer pin....so what? Just stick it back down after with a bit of race tape and carry on with life.
