i think its got alot to do with where your driving and at what times.

some areas are patrolled more frequently.

some areas are known 'hooning' locations.

i find that driving to and from work for the last 5 years ive NEVER been pulled over at those times.

and then random trips at different times i get pulled over.

Saying that, i havent been pulled over for a year.

and i was never pulled over while on my P Plates.

geez some of you guys have been through worse then i have? my ps were off last night like i said i was cleaning the car beforehand and forgot to put the front ones on. the back were there but i can garantee you cannot see them at night time as the stock tints on v35 on the back are really dark.

i have a few grins :( my way also but i will say that car is bought from my own money. took year of uni worked at uncles restaurant before and cafe etc and yes really good pay. im 20 and off my ps next month. other then that i would agree with hoony if you are a spoilt one at least pay back your parents some money.

man i dont know what will happen seriously after im going to install exhaust carbon kit etc...more attention? lol but the ps will be off at least. :)

these days there are cops on the forums and i am sure having a pic in ur avatar that shows ur rego along with a display name of "xtc" might explain a few things, You would be suprised the lenght some police officers go to and now with that police squad that is targeting hoons where do u think they gather most of there intellegence from??? unfortunantly it is a sign of the times

whats my rego then if you can see it :) also i know there are cops lurking around even fisheries on fish keeping websites, busted a guy who keeps illegal fish etc.

heres a tip never just sit in your car and act like a scared bunny get out and speak to them at eye level they are not above you because they are doing a job. you have rights we are not just big targets for people to take shots at

seems like youve done that? lol. but seriously sometimes you cant be bothered doing anything, best to let them have there way and hopefully within 5 mins your going your way they go thiers.

ive had holdens for years with no problems i bought my 32 and ive been pulled over a total of 5 times since i bought it once with a cruise once after they followed me for 10 odd kms then checked over the car, as annoying as it was they showed me all the illegal bits she had on her from the previous owner then just the other week on the way home from night shift three times in 5 kms with three different cops all random breath tests but i guess thats the down side of an import lol

then what?

Oops, thought i typed that bit in :D

The cop asked why, then my step dad explained how he was the 5th cop to pull him over within a 3 hour time frame. the cop radio'd in to check this, and yes he had been pulled over too many times. so they let him go, no apology though. but I don't think he had much trouble from them after that.

One cop asked him "Is this your sons car?" lol, wankers.

getting out of your car when you have been pulled over by police can be construed as aggression on your part .by law you are supposed to remain behind wheel of your car.

Also cops do NOT have to have a reason to search these days.

I've got out of the car for 5 of the 6 times I've been pulled over. Meet them half way, with your license in you hand, more of an even playing field in my opinion. I got let off with a warning when caught doing 95kms over... I think it works well!

^ i see MattyP reading this...

i've been pulled over HEAPS... always RBT (sometimes speeding, well a few times but yeah...)

once your car is stopped they're basically out of the car straight away man, if you can just turn off your car and your lights (if it's night time or dark) and just hop out if they haven't reached you... if they have then stay in the car unless they're in your way

always good to show common courtesy to them, if you've done something wrong and you're definitely going to get done, don't act stupid... if they haven't got you definitely then say things like 'maybe', 'possibly' and 'could have' a lot... then you won't be done for actually admitting anything lol

works like a charm :D

my2c

and out of interest Kinh, what plates did you get?

i need some custom plates now, about time i turn into a SAUWA sheep

Also, the police cannot search your vehicle unless they have reasonable suspicion to do so. So if they do ask for it next time ask them what they are relying upon as suspicion and if they can't tell you you can say no (which may lead to a bit of verbal biffo) or you can say yes, on the basis that you are consenting to a search without a reasonable cause and just highlight that you think it's not warranted but you'll allow it to be gracious

Or you can say 'yes, on the condition it is recorded' (not by you) and chances are they'll forget it as they'll have to take you and the car back to the station to record on their own equipment. A waste of time and effort for most cops.

I've been on a few cop operations for work, and the only times they've searched cars is when alcohol is involved with young drivers (to find more booze)

As for cops allowed to speed without sirens on. Well if they get flashed with no sirens on, they cop the fine so technically no they're not allowed to speed. As the cop that pulled me over last week said 'We're here to uphold the law' *cough* lol.

As much as I agree with getting out of your vehicle and being as pleasant as possible

WTF!

    • I get that taking off the head is best but that's a bit much for "just" valve seals. I was just under the impression that one would be able to rotate to TDC and be able to temporarily drop the valve without losing it and effectively having to remove the head to then recover it. I never knew people actually pushed rope into the cylinder to do valve seals hahaha So just to confirm, just going to TDC will not work? In that case I know when I do valve seals I'll maybe just remove the head and do some other things while I'm there, or just wait until I do an engine build.
    • The old approach was to fill the cylinder/chamber with a length of rope pushed in through the sparkplug hole. The new approach is to connect compressed air to the sparkplug hole and fill it with enough pressure to push the valves up. Doing either of these things with the head on and the engine in the car is a lot less pleasant than doing it properly.
    • Can't you put the pistons to TDC and then do the valve seals? Or will the drop down too far to pull them back up?
    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
