garrett%20500-600hp%20roller%20turbo1.jpggarrett%20500-600hp%20roller%20turbo1.jpg

Specs:

Garrett GT3040 Ball Bearing Turbo:-

Aftermarket Applications

Part Number #GSB8005A for 500hp

#GSB8006 for 600hp

Rated 500-600hp

Spec's:-

0.63 0r 0.82 /r Turbine Housing (4 bolt outlet)

0.70a/r Compressor Housing

Watercooler Centre

56 Trim Compressor Wheel (T04S)

55 lbs/min Comp Flow Max.

84 Trim Turbine Wheel

External Wastegate

$2500 new from GCG - Save $460 as it is on special now.

Seems like a good buy. But how good is the turbosharger ??

Considering the XTRGTST-STG2 500hp rated is $2450.00 - and that is on an exchange basis.

I understand that a bit of fabrication might be neccessary to fit the GT3040 to an R33 GTS-T ??

Thanks in advance.

Tony,

I think Andrew has the HKS 3040 - this one is a Garret GT3040 - buggered if I know what the difference is.

CGC say that these are either 500-600HP Turbo - but I think Merli's had more potential than that.

If they are similar, then I think may this one would be too laggy for an RB25 - But perfect for the RB30.

Needjapcar - looks sweet mate - yeah keep us informed !@

You cannot match the HSK ARs, as HKS has proprietry on them.

I am pretty sure Ben Ellis is using a Gt3040 on his GTT in HPI mag but with a 1.** turbine AR, also I think GTSt VSPEC just fitted one.

The hks 3040 uses 50 trim comp wheel, the 56 wheel is used on the 3037 by HKS? the turbine trim is the same.

HKS sell the 0.87 A/R turbine housing with the 3037 as a kit for the RB25, I currently have the 0.61 and although it makes good power at 1-1.2bar, I am sure it is going to choke the engine a bit up top once I start winding in boost, also it is only making 256 at 1bar, so probably a bit more with a larger AR on the turbine, which I intend doing soon:)

I think your choice boils down to where you want the boost and how much power you. The bigger the AR ratio the better the top end, more ign, more power for the same boost pressure - due to the reduced back pressure (the curse of turbo powered engine) but also more lag, although this can be offsett by the use of adj cam gears or cams.

Also if you intend doing cams you will get increased overlap, so a smaller AR could really cause troubles.

Hi guys, that's the one, a Garrett based XTR GT3040, it's going on our RB31DET. If you are thinking of puting it on an RB25, you need to make sure you have the support systems to handle it. Camshafts (256's at least) are a prequisite, as are larger injectors, exhaust manifold, good wastegate, exhaust, intercooler etc etc. All that will make the cost of the turbo seem like a bargain.

PS; for the guys thinking about aftermarket plenums, Ben's car made the 290 rwkw and the 11.9 (I only saw the 12.4) with a standard RB25DET plenum.

man i gotta subscribe to hpi, hate hearing about this in it i haven't seen!!!

anyway, i was thinking of this turbo too! didn't see the special on it though!!! this special takes almost $400 bucks off, should bring the turbo setup down to just over $4K!!

wish i had the money :D plus the $3K+ for support systems!!!

plus upgraded pistons for over 250 rwkw?????

expensive to be sure!!

any ideas on the power difference between using this turbo on RB25, and the RB30/25 setup? sydneykid?

I'll have all the supports - including new (forged) internals, cams, etc - But still running the GCG Hi Flow turbo (500HP).

Thinking of upgrading to another turbo that flows better - But not sure if I can justify the cost right now - Maybe later.....

This GT3040 seems like good value.. I'll give GCG a call !

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
