Hey, My R32 GTST came with one of those add on things that go over the top of the Word skyline which makes it light up (blue or green)

Does anyone know anything about them...i really wanna connect it and i heard that ya have to have some special relay or something

I also heard that they were an optional extra when buying a skyline new...and u could select either Green or blue

Is it just better to buy a small neon or getting the right relay...or simply connecting it up again???

Thanks!

I could just buy some of that flexi neon stuff...but i wanna see what its like with the propper lights in it...i think it reflects the chrome part or soemthing...ill pull it apart one day and check it all out

I wonder if i just somehow i find away to connect it up...maybe it will work

i heard that u can connect ur break lights so the reflect into the skyline part to light it  up but not sure exactly

Damn that would be cool...I WANNA DO THAT!!!....imagine having it glow blue then as u break it turns red....would have to have a seprate red light which is jumped off of the break lights...is that possible???

Anyone know how to do this????

Where there is a will there is a way i sopose

anything is possible really

what you could possibly do is place mirrors in there so that it reflects the red through the word when u break and when u dont it shines back to blue or whatever colour you want

you would need some sort of kill switch to cut the current when u press the brakes so that the blue turns off

I've got the blue/green ricey "SKYLINE" on my 33. I had the car for two weeks before someone else pointed it out !! You gotta scrape the mylar foil off the lettering (ie remove the panel) light goes in behind, wired to GND and switched thru taillights, hey presto you're the son of rajab Of The Rice ( one rice to rule them all).

Personally I reckon it would be quite a mission, but I guess it looks cool enuff to some folks to warrant the effort.

hope this helps.

It's definitely aftermarket, 'cos the Jap who installed it didn't scrape off all the mylar, & just twisted bare wires together & wrapped a bit of masking tape around the whole lot....dodgey !!

hmm unsure of that one...i guess if u put neons behind it and have them so u cant see the direct light and only the glow..then should be all good

Should be fine as well with the glowing off the chrome...but who knows

Me too! me too!! i want one.. may seem ricey to some, but its a factory optional extra.. and i just want it! Does anybody have one? which cars normally have it? How can you tell if it has is the illuminated one? will have to go to jap wreckers and hunt around.. Oh, i dont see how it could be illegal, its a factory optional extra...

U will know if u have one cos it is a stick on plastic thing...at the moment i have mine in bits...cos the acual factory light blew up...probably cos i found it full of water...and im currently trying to put neons in it...i have those flexi EL wire ones but the glow isnt bright enough...i mught just get blue perspec's and put lots of LED's in it insteed...will look cool when finnished...hopefully!!!

U will be lucky if u can find one cos to fit it u need to drill holes into the existing bumper and they use a Sh!tload of glue crap...and its impossible to not rip paint off when taking the glue off...ill hopefully post a pic when i have finnished mine

    • Thanks both. All good advice. Reminds me of drilling through stone wall for drainage pipe 😬 I'll let you know how I get on if I still have use of my hands afterwards 😅
    • Finally got shipping number for the intake and throttle body, shipped by UPS, so "should" be in my hands sometime next week, fingers fracking crossed

    • Each to their own I guess  Me, I put just as much time into cleaning inside of the cars as I do on the outside As for getting wet, it is really no different than steam cleaning the carpets at home, apart from the cars carpet dries alot faster than the house, again, I only do it in the hotter months and leave the car opened up for a few hours As I only do it yearly, it is just before I do the diff and gearbox service, so I clean the carpets, then it's up on stands, wheels off, service, clean the undercarriage,  grease the bushings and do a nut and bolt check on everything  Disclaimer: I typically had all the time in the world to kill when I was working 🤣, so spending a full day or 2 cleaning, serving and "looking at stuff" was,  easily achievable, and a fun mental therapy day As for time to kill, I retired last Wednesday, so apart from my physical training, my days are filled with lots of random jobs around the house and garden...."Idle hands are the Devils something something" I am also buying a new house sooner rather than later, I'm actually looking at a potential property tomorrow, I'm looking forward to getting a car hoist as I'm starting to get to old to crawl around under a car, I can only imagine all the undercarriage cleaning and looking at stuff when that gets set up
    • Yeah, I'm not interested in wetting the carpets, and I don't care about brown dirt/dust that lives deep in the pile or underneath. It's not like I crawl around on them in my birthday suit or eat dropped food off them (because there is never any open food in my car). The seats are alcantara (cheap Chinese imitation alcantara, to be sure!) with barely 1" of foam pad behind the surface. That's not getting wet either. Any car that I would be happy to get the interior wet, I would not care to put the effort into.
