This question is for all the guys with r32's that still have a rb20det.

What ecu are you guys running??

I have been thinking about getting either an aftermarket ecu or getting my standard ecu remapped.

For aftermarket ones i was thinking ap engineering, if i can find one, or something elsebut not sure what else yet. the problem is they all have an initial outlay on top of the tunning which is why im thinking more along the lines of getting my standard ecu remapped and that way i still keep all the standard protections in the standard ecu. I have heard good things from remapped ecu's making basically the same power etc etc

Just want opionions on what some others have done. For those that have a standard ecu remapped where did you get it done and roughly how much did it cost??

gettting my stock ecu remapped was the best around 390$ (ALL UP chip, tune) i have ever spent on my car.. btw.. i got a remapped done (with a Generic tune for basic bolt on mods ect.. u know, fmic, fuel pump, fuel reg, splitfires, rb25 turbo @ 13psi, 3" split dump zorst ect ect.. i told him wat i had.. he did it, and mailed to me... the guy was off SAU his name was.. CEFFIE or somthing :P.. but really u just want that remapped chip just so it removes like the stock limits ect.. like 180km speed cut, boost cut, and rev limit raised abit and air fuel ratio changed to around 12:1 or somthing cant really remember lol... THEN i went an got my car dyno tuned (prolly just fiddiling with fuel reg n shit to get it spot on ect.. and u get real time diagonostics ect.. that($280 INC service @ hi torque).. (got fine tuned getting it safe and strong, after that.. 220kw ftw.. :) def way to go bud. :) BUT!!! u know.. if u got the cash.. Power Fc would be awsome..2k later :P:thumbsup: they are rare as f*k! For the rb20 lol:(

Already have all my limits take out (boost cut, speed limit, rev cut) so just after the tune to get my car running just right and get a bit more power out of her.

And for 1700+, what it costs to buy the power fc, i can probably have a couple of tunes done and have a bit of money left over.

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
