I have finished my car and this was left out. My sparky said I didn't need as it was for the boost gauge for the dash. To me it looks like a map sensor and it could be the cause of the issues with my car.

Please go easy on me as I'm a complete noob when it comes to RB25 engines.

The symptoms are-

-Weird idle once the car is warm

-Breaks up on light throttle over 4,000 rpm

-Forget about any hard throttle..not happy.

From my understanding this device coverts manifold pressure into an electrical impulse for the computer to make it's adjustments..correct me if I'm wrong.

By the way. I'm running everything standard R33 stuff.

Your help would be fantastic. I have diagrams, but I can't find it. Anyone have a pinout number for the computer on this by any chance?

It is a map sensor.

It only operates the standard gauge so not required.

light throttle and 4000rpm breakdown sounds like a fuel issue. Check fuel flow before and after the filter. Do a pressure test and see what it does while driving and breaking down.

You could also have a second issue with the 02 sensor or the coolant temp sensor. Check these with a multimeter.

Also do as suggested above and check for vac leaks.

Thanks for all the replies so far. We did find one issue tonight..Over boosting. I found that the standard boost solenoid has an issue. I bypass this and now the boost/waste gate is working as it should.

It's still surges a bit, but much better to drive now. I had a quick look at the timing tonight cause I've changed the timing belt before the engine went in. I don't think it's right so I'll see someone about it.

I need to check the fuel filter as this car has been off the road for nearlly 9 years. Even though the filter was new when I put this engine in it may be full of junk.

Is there someone in the gong that you could recommend?

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
