Hi all

Firstly I just need a simple question answered. I have an R32 with a RB25det in it, manual GB, dunno if the gearbox is 32 or 33. I have been having problems with it running well. I bought it like this BTW. The ecu has the number 23740 0V310 on it. I believe this is a Stagea ecu, and it's a series 1. Is this correct? Also am I correct in saying that all series 1 Stageas are Auto and this ecu could be half my problems for the very bad running? I'm in Saudi Arabia and bought the car from the UAE. Obviously the people before me had no idea as the wiring is an absolute mess in a lot of places.

The car idles very smoothly but totally lacks power all the way through the rev range. It is showing 5psi boost increasing to 7psi up towards redline, but just sooooo sluggish. I just did the timing back to 15deg adv at idle, and also regapped all plugs, and added a walbro 255 fuel pump intank as the previous setup was disgusting to say the least. So still like this and now im wondering whether the ecu is the culprit. Any suggestions please!!!!

could be part of the problem. yes that is a stagea ECU, and in fact it is the "special" hard to replace one that was only in production for 1 month according to FAST. I have the same little bastartd in my stagea which made changing to a power FC very difficult.

the stagea runs less aggressive cams than gtst so that might be part of the problem. also the stagea ECU is much less tolerant of mods than the skyline one, it goes to a safety cutout where it runs super rich with only a little extra boost in it.

the fact its for an auto will make no difference, but like I said, the mapping is definately different to the gtst. if you aren't afraid it might be worth changing. and put in some gtst cams as well they will wake it right up at the top end.

How can I make sure it's not just the ecu out of a Stagea? Is there any differences to the engines externally i can look for? So you are saying that the auto part does not really matter even with the manual gearbox? Would an r34 gtt ecu be a possible swap as I saw the pin layouts are close if not the same?

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
