my mate bought one a while ago as it wasnt on the restriction list (even though it runs the same engine as the 350Z which is illegal according to the list)

he hasnt been picked up yet however its completly clean, no badging and a nicer infinity grill on it.

insurance is a bitch to though mate $3000+

good luck

WOW i find it amazing how everyone has stated clear and simply the rules, yet this bloke doesn't get it

let me try.

You are a P Plater - i don't care when you got it.

You are not allowed to drive any car over 125kw/tonne.

A 350GT is OVER 125kw/tonne.

Therefore, you CANNOT drive one legally.

WOW Calm down Winston, i rang Vic Roads and 2 different opperators told me that they dont apply to me, and it clearly says it on their website, and to second that, i visited my local cop station in East Kew today on the way back from uni and an Officer also told me that, to his understanding, they dont apply to me either becuase of when i got my liscence.

I asked for peoples advice, not some smartass, if you havnt got anything usefull to say then dont even bother posting in the thread.

+1 /Thread

I didn't read all the posts, but this man hit the jackpot :D

Sorry but BIGGERDave is right.

The previous power to weight ratio has been discontinued quote: 'The previous power to weight restrictions will continue to apply for drivers who obtained their probationary licences before 1 July 2007.' This states that only people who have to abide by this are the people who got there licences before 1 july 07, after that the new restrictions are in place stating that you cant drive anything over a 6, a turbo or supercharged (unless its diesel and un-modded) or any cars that are on the high power list : http://www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au/node/197. :D

Thhhhhaannkkkkk you, as this man said, it is written there clear as day!!

The people on this thread are the only ive came across who say im wrong, except for some.

I am Sorry, I stand corrected... i cannot see anywhere that is says you are not ruled by the power/weight law... however i can't see it written anywhere to say that you are either.. so in saying that.. it seems you can drive a 350GT

i would get it in writing from the victorian police or vicroads as this situation could change... and you would want to cover your arse

The reason i jumped to my first conclusion is because when the 'arrive alive' website was first published stating the "NEW" rules, it stated that the "new" p platers will be governed by the old power/weight rules with the ADDITION of the new restrictions as Ash explained in his earlier post

it appears they have amended this and removed that sanction

Nah its all good mate, respect for amending yourself, IMO it takes a man to admit he is wrong, good point on the letter, ive already lodged a letter to the vic roads policys office in melbourne yesterday about my claim, and they said if i get the ok, ill get it in writing. They also said, indirectly, if i keep it with me, that it will cover my arse in the event of me being pulled over by the fuzz, as you said.

Didn't' know the power to weight didn't apply to new p platers, haven't checked out the websites in months :P So just want to say sorry to BIGGERDave because i was in fact wrong too. :)

It is about as clear as mud but that's how I would interpret the key statement too now that it's been pointed out to me. You don't see that too often around here :) Newcomer/low post count/p-plater winning arguments against seasoned car enthusiasts/keyboard warriors/moderators/whatever the case may be. :D I also stand corrected for my offensively bold not. Careful though bud, that statement appears to me to be able to be interpretted a number of ways. Get as much proof as you can. Welcome to SAU lol

Haha cheers mate, in terms of people welcoming me, u r the first one to "Pop my cherry", as they say.

yeah ive sent a letter off to vic roads bout 10 working days ago, and still no response, i left my post back adress, etc etc, i even sent it to the suggested division. Has anyone here had the same waiting time, with regards to mailing to vic roads?

hey well done mate, good to see you stuck to what you wanted, in the end it has payed off hey.

to answer your previous question, my mate has had his for like 2month, they look schmick with no badges and it goes hard.

easily one of the nicest legal cars for a p-plater, good luck with it all mate, let us know when you get one :P .

cheers

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
