I own a GHD..

No really, I do.

I bought my sister one of them for christmas one year. When I bought it the woman in the hairdressers was lookin at me weird. FFFFUUU Bitch! f**kin exxy shit aswell.

hey hey hey!

mmmm, i see how you're playing the game here

180 is down for some skidpan :P

I'm down for skidpan

Question Guys!

I need some help with tyres here. Wife's new beetle gonna be here next month and she's getting 17s for the car, so obviously she'll need tyres. What would you recommend?

Model Noise Wear Price Grip TOTAL

RE001 2 2 1 2 7

KU31 3 3 3 2 11

KU36 2 1 2 3 8

595 SS 3 3 3 2 11

595 Evo 2 2 2 3 9

Size that I'm getting is 215/45/17 and judging from the price I've got here, KU31 (option1, cheapest) and SS (ERD, cheapest) are the best compromise between noise/price/wear. What are your thoughts?

Get the SS. I've got no complaints on mine. Brilliant everyday tyre.

Brandon... I'd recommend Linglongs.

LINGLONGS FTW!

is it the turbo beetle or na?

I'd go for 595s or 535s respecitvely... if I wasn't buying Linglongs that is!!

Ok, I'm just gonna ignore the rest. :P

Colin: yea thats what I thought too but dont know if noise will be an issue. KU31 is cheaper so its a tough 1.

chinese/taiwanese

basically the same shit..

SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT LAH!

FAIL

Taiwanese uses "MEH" for that sentence, Chinese uses "BEH" and Singapore/Malaysia uses "LAH"... Talk about multi-cultural...

I gave you a normal answer as well. the 59s and the 53s are both quiet. I've been in Colin's car when he's been giving it some and the only time we noticed the tyres was when they squealed a little on a corner or two.

The 53s I had on the Capri for ages and are also great.

Come for a spin in mine on thursday and you can see what the noise is like. It doesn't bother me there are a lot of things that are noisier in my car than the tyres.

Thats the exact reason why I'm asking. I cbf about the noise on mine as the exhaust will be louder but on her beetle its different. The CR KAI I sold to my friend had some ling longs on them (cheapass) and I didnt know they're noisy until he put them on his cefiro. Its very annoying to hear thats for sure, sounds like bee buzzing.

John: its the actual tyre being noisy and not from lost of traction etc. Generally better gripping tyres are noiser than lesser gripping ones. And thats why I'm checking whats the best compromise between them.

Nope but its actually around 75kW if you wanna know. The last beetle before the new facelift thats coming soon.

To be fair though, I love all things Volkswagen and have owned two beetles, and did my driving test in a new beetle. They are great cars and go pretty hard. The federals will increase the handling on it, but I would also look at suspension, it's pretty soft, and can affect cornering a bit. I'd just go with 535s though, for an NA Beetle. I would have used 595s on the turbo version.

Obviously your call, but my input as a Volkswagen and federal user :P

    • For fuelling the Haltechs have O2WB fuel controllers. Very useful for helping tuning VE and correcting for *small* mistakes. Of course if your injector/cam/trigger/sensor data is just wrong (or for a GTT which is not a GT) then you will get impossible reactions to things. I am sure you know this already but the reason people don't typically put haltechs (or any Aftermarket ECU) on GT's is because there's practically no real gains to be had - So this knowledge won't be commonplace.

    • Shouldn't need a "base map" for anything other than guidance to ignition tuning. You just need the engine capacity right, the injector size right, and something, almost anything, for a VE map. On an NA engine, fuelling is almost completely a function of load signal & rpm. It should run and drive with a completely flat fuel map. It will be too lean under load, but that's easily fixed. We used to tune all ECUs without any base map. There were no such things (until someone had tuned a near stock engine on one, and then they had a "base map".
    • What did you actually buy/how much did it cost? When I got mine in like.. 2017...? 2019? the aim was to run Torque for gauges via ODB2 and things like Track Addict/Laptimers/Dashcam/Reversecam/Spotify etc. Mine never broke, but I wonder if you've got the same needs (it sounds like it). Cause I liked the idea of being able to do anything with it. That said, yours also cost 3x the cost of what I spent so... food for thought.
