So, um, is it bad if' I've just spent $2200 at auction on a car I don't have....

P.S. I wasn't even drunk!

Depends what car!

Assuming from japland?

Never been a fan of Machine Head but heard this song tonight, after a few listens I approved, however the solo doesn't match the song.

Has anyone heard about those "We buy any car" places? I'd be interested to know what they model the valuation on. I'm not planning on using them or anything, just saw a sign on the train home.

I'm guessing they would just base it off redbook like most other dealers.

In other news. Looks like I'll be getting some new turbros n stuff for the car  Manager came and saw me yesterday to talk about pushing me through to a full Site Engineer position in the new year so the hard work is paying off. Looking at getting some cheap -7s off here if the guy likes my offer + 34 GTR Dumps and a Nistune.

Hey guys,

I'm a used car salesman and I can tell you now I work for the No. 1 Dealership in Australia and we HATE redbook. Redbook's information is outdated by 3 months. And if import cars are your thing, NEVER trade your car in at a dealership. They will give you less than 4/5's of f**k all... And i can also guarantee that if a car mob has to advertise to get ppl to take cars to them they are gonna lowball the bejesus out of whoever is trying to sell their car to them... It's the same as these places that guarantee minimum trade in... they either allow it on only selected cars which they jack the price up on, or if it is on any car in the yard then they jack up all the prices... or reduce their margin of movement on the price... The dealership I work for doesn't pull any BS... we don't have minimum trades, and in any circle imports are worth nothing as trades... not just to us... but we also call it like it is with the customer and advertise vehicles at nearly rock bottom prices... Our manager is willing to show his figures to any customer on vehicles to show how much he actually loses on some deals...

Nah, she'll be right mate.

Turbos and dumps acquired. Got a few sets of front pipes that I'm deciding between. Got offered some Nismo ones for $250 but they just look like the set I've already got. The other one is a set of HKS copies I think.

HKS Copies

Nismo Front Pipes

Any advice for what is better? Any significant difference between the 2?

CORREK! It is from Hapland, it just hasn't started it journey here. Hoping it'll be on a boat (insert joke about being on a boat) within a week.

Wow, it has a very 90's feel to it. It's not too bad, bit too much scream for my liking.

Congrats on the turbros. I'm glad I could be as influencial as I could!!

I wouldn't go for the Nismo pipes, as like you mentioned, they are almost identical to your current ones. THe HKS copy is a much nicer design and will improve midrange and also alter the exhaust note. Basically, you go from an unbalanced front pipe, like the Nismo one posted and your current one, to equal length pipes.

Morning Mangs

Wedge goes in for tint today :)

Winrar!

Starting to feel a lot like christmas :whistling: The next question is, adjustable cam gears? Some graphs in the forced induction forum showing 20kw increase in mid range with some adjustment on the exhaust side. Will it be worth it with standard injectors?

Cam gear on the exhaust side is worth it. Stock injectors at sane boost will be fine. Not much gain to be had by fiddling the intake cam.

Adjustable cam gears make it smoother on the power delivery from what i've seen, small gains in power but mainly just better power curve, might aswell get one. Should get some mild cams while your at it too....

I wouldnt reccomend cams, I have poncams in mine and the loss of power down low was noticeable, for -5s I would think its better but for little almost stock turbos it seems most of the time you are better off with stock cams.

Which dealership do you work for?

Im in a dealership over here in Perth and your right that all the 'specials' and 'deals' you get caught up in.....well, you (the customer) pay for it somewhere :)

I was just trying to get colin to buy more things, really he could do with a set of titanium valves and upgraded valve springs. Maybe a mild porting and a custom plenum. Oh and don't forget to speed flow and braid everything

Well im getting sent up to mackay tommorrow to deliver a car and im trying to think of what I can do for the many hours of down time I have there. To give you an idea I land at 9am and dont leave till 7.15pm! And only takes 1 hour to do delivery. Thinking bout drinking myself senseless but I have to drive back from brissie airport to home so that rules that out. Any other suggestions would b great

    • @Murray_Calavera  If I were an expert I wouldn't be in here looking for assistance.  I am extremely computer literate, have above average understanding on how things should be working and how they should tie together.  If I need to go to a professional tuner so be it, but I'd much rather learn and do things myself even if it means looking for some guidance along the way and blowing up a few engines. @GTSBoy  I was hoping it would be as simple as a large vacuum leak somewhere but I'm unable to find anything, all lines seem to be well capped or going where they need to be, and when removed there is vacuum felt on the tube.  It would be odd for the Haltech built in MAP to be faulty, the GTT tune I imported had it enabled from the start, I incorrectly assumed it was reading a signal from the stock MAP, but that doesn't exist.  After running a vacuum hose to the ECU the signal doesn't change more than 0.2 in either direction.   I'll probably upload a video of my settings tomorrow, as it stands I'm able to daily drive, but getting stuttering when giving it gas from idle, so pulling away from lights is a slow process of revving it up and feathering the clutch until its moving, then it will accelerate fine.  It sounds like I need to get to the bottom of the manifold pressure issue, but the ignition timing section is most intimidating to me and will probably let a pro do that part.  Tomorrow I'll try a different vacuum line to T off of, with any luck I selected one that was already bypassed during the DBW swap. @feartherb26  I do have +T in the works but wanted to wait until Spring to start with that swap since this is my good winter AWD vehicle.  When removing the butterfly, did it leave a bunch of holes in the manifold that you needed to plug?  I thought about removing it but assumed it would be a mess.   I notice no difference when capping the vacuum line to it or letting it do its thing.  This whole thing has convinced me to just get a forward facing manifold when the time comes though.
    • Update: tested my spark plugs that are supposed to be 5ohms with a 10% deviation and one gave me a 0 ohms reading and the rest were 3.9ohm<, so one bad and the others on their way out.
    • 9" wheels are a little too wide for a RWD 32. They can fit. People have put R33 GTR wheels on 32s for years and years. But they are a very tight squeeze. This has been known for about 30 years. As I said - there is no difference between a 17 and an 18 in terms of what will fit. The rolling diameter needs to stay about the same as stock - not very much larger. If you increase that, you will start to have problems. If you increae rolling diamater at the same time as yo increase width, you will have problems earlier. as 9" wheels are pushing the boundaries already, you would need to be careful with tyre choice. I would put 8.5s on the front of mine, but would expect problems with 9s.
    • post up screen shots of your injector tables
    • Diagnostic flow for a code 21 says check signal at the ECU pins, on a voltmeter of some kind it should read 0.1V at idle, 0.12V cranking, 0.15-0.25V at 2000 rpm. Check each coil such that +1, -3 is infinite or very high resistance, -3, +2 should do the same. (-1, +3), (+3, -2), (+1, -2), and (-1, +2) should all be somewhere between 0 ohms and high resistance. If you trace the path from the coil pin all the way back to the ECU in the diagram the resistance you measure at the coil vs connected to the harness should be pretty much the same.
