hi everyone, i signed up here at Sau bcoz every skyline owners in australia comes to this site to discuss anything about skylines, so here is my story, i recently bought my first skyline, its the RB25 dett or otherwise knwn as r34 gtt, now, for some reason, i have been reading magazines like imports car, and they show a list of mods for r34 gtt and how to save but still got the horse power, they basically said to go for local names and it doesnt have to be branded product,so i decided to go really cheap, firstly, i got a really cheap pod filter, i bought it from a local shop around, its worth $100 altogether including the ring that connects the pod filter, pod filter itself was $25, australian brand...dont know if its good but it does the job still..and secondly, cat back exhaust, DRIFT brand, i dont think its loud enough compare to other exhaust but its good for me..now, should i change any of the mods?? is it worthy?? how big is it really the difference if i go with the big names like Apexi pod filter or N1 exhaust??can someone shade some light here please?thanx heaps for ur time..

although its not always the case, i love the saying "if its cheap its usually for a reason"

when i finally get around to start modding my car i will try to only use jap parts. i just figure they are jap cars and who else would know what parts make them perform better than the people that built them.

Firstly: You have an rb25det, not dett. All rb25's have one turbo.

You may have gone backwards with the pod. I would have personally gone a good panel filter, that fits in the std airbox, as a pod just sucks warm air in the engine bay, unless you have it partitioned with a cold air intake. Pods are not "all the same", so you need to do a bit of research. Cheap ones can actually restrict air-flow or even worse, not filter the air properly, causing pre-mature wear and tear on the turbo.

Same as exhausts. Just because it is not load does not mean it doesn't flow as good. But like everything in life, you get what you pay for; so cheap is not always better. I would have personally waited till a good 2nd hand item became available, and spend half the price for a quality item. Being cat-back still has a major restriction. Just remember; anything flows as good as it's smallest restriction. The smallest restriction in your exhaust is the cat, followed by the front/dump pipe. Change these as well and you'll free up some good kw, and also the exhaust note will change and be a fair bit louder/deeper.

Ive used some china parts on my car with good results(1,2,3,1-now to get flamed), in reference to the pod filter i think its a waste as now you suck hot air from the engine bay unless you get a cover for it, a stock air box with a good filter is better than a pod in my mind(especially on a stockish motor).

Have a look in the forced induction threads for info, pros and cons of different gear, all your questions will be answered buy searching through there.

My performance steps

1. make it stop

2. make it handle

3. make it go

"if its cheap its usually for a reason"

Agreed, most the time.

"i just figure they are jap cars and who else would know what parts make them perform better than the people that built them"

Bullshit :ermm:

The Japanese people that make aftermarket parts did not build the cars :P

I like using both Aussie and Jap made parts, depends on what it is.

Example:

ECU - Wolf3D. Made in VIC, Australia. Has more features and controls than the Pfc, have local service, information and software update supports, works very well (when tuned by a Wolf trained tuner).

id go for named jap brands cuz they are tried and tested with more research and development, so you can be pretty sure that your safe with those mods. despite that, some Aussie brands dont do too bad too.

ultimately ur paying for the R&D the larger brands have put into their products. other than that........i cant justify their cost on some of their more expensive products.

good on u for buying aussie tho :D although, if u bought jap, u would be buying aussie steel anyways.

gotta love our almost 200yr trading history ;)

    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
