and if it is cost a fortune I will fix them my self but I need tips about how to get the broken studs out and do I need a new gasket and torque wrench in tighten back the stud

one of my bolts is missing, fortunately for me i just get a slight ticking noise, boys at ice performance told me to leave it for now, if i get a bigger turbo or it starts getting noisy then i should bother replacing it, its a common problem with skylines so i'd say just leave it unless its real bad, then head over to ice performance and see what they say :P

well i bought mine about 6 years ago, cannot remember how much exactly but i do remember it being cheap...around $30 i think. But there are more expensive kits that will last longer.(i only used mine twice and its still like new mind you)

It involves drilling in to the broken stud and screwing the tool bit into it, which has a reverse thread, so that you are actually screwing it anticlockwise and is tapered (similar to a tapping tool if you used one to tap a thread before). The tapered tool bit bites in to the stud and as you keep turning anticlock it brings the stud out.

Try shops that sell tools or nuts/bolts, or car parts such as repco.

Just fixed the same problem on my R33. When installing a new dump pipe noticed a stud missing, turns out it was sheared off. Another three broke when I tried to remove the manifold. Turns out it is a common problem on these and RB30's. Caused by a warped exhaust manifold so you need to take your head off and get it to a head specialist or similair along with your exhaust manifold. I got all the studs removed and a new set installed plus the manifold machined flat for $150. A genuine top end gasket kit from nissan will set you back between $220-$300 depending if you can get it trade or not. If you remove/replace the head yourself they are the only real expenses. Pain in the butt job for just a few broken studs but it needs to be done because even if only one is broken, you can bet that a few more are fatigued and aren't doing their job anyway.Hope that helps.

Yes, removed it myself. Do a search on these forums, there are some good tips. I had four broken ones, and another one broke when the shop was removing them. Only the studs on each end broke indicating the warped manifold. When we put a straight edge across the manifold it had warped 2-3mm each end. If you try to remove the studs yourself with an EZ-out, make sure you don't break it off in the stud, as once you do that it makes the job a whole lot harder.

you can get easy out kits for $5 from super cheap auto

But be very very carefull when drilling the hole for the easy out or you might end up costing your self a fortune like i did!! By drilling into the main oil gallery

There was no obvious problem with mine, either. Only one was missing but another three were as good as broken and had no tension on the manifold. Once I took the manifold off, you could see black soot on the head where it had been leaking. Now that it is fixed, the car sounds different.

I bought the EZ out and I succesfully remove 1 stud but I couldnt get the other two as I can't drill the at the centre so I f@#k o1 of them, the other one is very hard to drill as limited space of drilling (stud at No 1 Cyl), I am frustrated now.

How much do you think to take the car to the workshop to get head off and change the head gasket and machine the broken stud?

Nb: My exhaust manifold is perfectly straight doesnt warp at all, do I still have to machine it ?

Thanks a heap guys

    • I have to agree like, yesterday, I was driving down the warringah freeway towards the bridge when this jackass driving a beaten up Honda civic cut me off so suddenly it made me almost yank the wheel to avoid him hitting my car. Honestly and he had the NERVE to flip me off (or some other gesture Idk). Im a calm guy, but really some people just dont deserve to have a license, let alone be allowed to drive on densely populated roads/highways. If youre gonna cut through lanes at least use the damn turn signal
    • HPA do an interesting video on tuning, and Adrian shows on the dyno, moving from 10:1 to 12:1 (And I think even 13:1) and the power moves SFA. However, a couple of degrees of timing has a HUGE impact. Exhaust side of things will more be the length of the exhaust and how many bends and turns you have. The straighter you can keep it, the better. By a lot. Oh, and getting the diameter right. Bigger isn't always better. Going to big can actually lose you power.
    • I have to say, most people I see on the road fit the bill of atrocious drivers. Whether they be cowboys in their dual cabs, bogans in the Commodores, or the soccer mums. Pretty much most people on the road put zero freaking thought into driving. Barely look further up the road then the end of their bonnet, and have never even thought about how catastrophically wrong shit can go, by doing what they all deem as normal driving. Especially their late braking, racing to stopped lights, and sitting half a foot off the bumper of the car in front at 110km/h. Wanna know what's even better? By the time their kids get to be old enough to learn to drive, they've already got in the back of their brain what is normal driving, how annoyed you're allowed to get at people etc, and then their parents who actually have zero freaking skill at driving (Even though they constantly say "I've been driving for 20 years and never had an accident!") teach the little twerps how to drive, or should I say, how to make a car move. Literally watched a parent teach their L Plater, on a 4 lane freeway, that you just slam the brakes on, and push your way over, even with a B Double bearing down on you, and that's how you should drive, rather then, just keep going to the next exit. Same shit happens all the time for side streets etc, watching numpties pull dumb shit turns pushing across 3 lanes of traffic, rather than just go up the road another 30 seconds, and take the next turn that'll get you to the same location... Oh, and the damn right lane bandits. Or the retards driving along with their headphones in, and can't hear the ambulance or fire truck right up their ass about to run them over...   Pretty much, people drive on the road, like ego centric f**ks, and don't actually think how dumb shit their driving is, how it could easily kill them or someone else in a split second, or at the very least, how they're driving is contributing to all the shit they're bitching about on the road, like shitty congestion!
