Hey all,i have a nasty noise,in neutril no noise,i drive off in first change to second and get a horrible whirring grinding sound, can feel it in clutch pedal, any idears taa. :P

Do you have the noise in second only, or is it with the second gear onwards?

You may have lunched second gear.

Do you give the car shit often?

Did you have a major miss going into second?

A few more details would help us give you a better opinion.

I'm old,and the 33 is my daily drive. When i depress the cluch i can feel and hear the noise, car drives fine and gear changes are the same,i really hope it's the

the cluch, going to mechanics on monday. :D

If you put your foot into the clutch and end up with a whirring noise, it'll more than likely be the throwout bearing. But this doesn't explain the second gear anomaly.

I hope it all turns out well for you, but keep us posted of the prognosis.

I sure will, clutch seems perfect, exedey sports tuff performance, had it for 5 years, plenty of mods, let daughter drive her around the block, she had heaps of fun, loves 2nd gear, cheeky little bugger.Been testing and seems to be thrust race bearing, wonder if she will cough up some of the repair costs, doud't it shes only 25 reckons it was due to old age tee hee,oh well shit happens, still love my 33. :)

I think I have a similar problem to you Humbla. I just put the Redline Lightweight Shockproof Gear Oil in my R34 GTT.

I've been having a grinding noise when dropping down gears at higher revs eg. 60km/h into 2nd makes a grind, 110 into 4th grinds, 3rd grinds when I shift up from 2nd at higher revs...

I changed gear box oil to see if the problem would go away but it hasn't :S I think it may be clutch related though as the grind can be felt through the clutch pedal when releasing it and the gear engages. You can also kinda feel it in the gear knob as well when you go into the gears. Only happens at higher revs...

Could it be the clutch or thrust bearing??

Any help would be awesome!!

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
