R33gts S2 Downpipe? Elbow?

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

I have this R33GTST and was thinking about an aftermarket downpipe (if that's of use to reduce backpressure??)

The car is genuine, except for a larger exhaust .. but I'm planning on upping the boost a bit soon (and later maybe fitting a R34 intercooler)

I was told spoolup time would decrease? (is this noticeable with my setup?)

Since I'm quite new to the car I'm a bit lost about choosing the right product ..

Can you help me out? (and what's this elbow for??)

Here are the links to different products (please advice):

Cheers from London,

Andrew

Well,

I have done my homework, and now I know what the Elbow is, and where it sits.

So is it worth buying a new elbow while I'm at it?

Cheers,

Andrew

Go for the first one the bellmouth version it will get you better gains in torque and horsepower than the split dump and front pipe.I have just fitted one myself last weekend and you can feel the difference from the standard set up.Check out this thread it has some handy tips on fitting the pipe lol.

as above i went for the bell mouth for easy fit when i did mine. from what i read you can have problems with the cheap split gas dump pipes, as the

smaller housing may block the turbo actuator from fully opening (meaning the turbo continues to spool).

oh also if you go a bell mouth its a one piece unit, so you wont need a dump (elbow) and front (downpipe). using the stock dump and a new front pipe

doesnt make sense imo.

Hi there,

Many thanks for the input.

I recon the bell mouth unit would be a good choice since I see no added benefit

to the elbow with the tiny swing gate pipe.

However I was reading through the downpipe mounting thread and what I don't want

is a downpipe without heat shields mount holes.

Nissan put the heat shields in for a good reason and I don't want to end up with melted

plastic parts anywhere near the elbow/down pipe.

Cheers,

Andrew

Did you read the whole thread as I explained in my post if you use allen key headed bolts in the 2 positions that I stated you should have no problem fitting the heat shields back on mine fitted without any hassles?

it wont be a problem running without the heatshields. there are plenty of people running aftermarket exhausts that dont have the shields fitted and don't have a problem.

and like has already been said, get the bellmouth style dump pipe (like the one in your first link), it is well worth it. and just wait untill you get the pipe installed to see what your boost is doing. you should get a slight boost increase just by upgrading the dump pipe.
