Could you tune an R34, without going rb30,

to give similar or better braking/handling/accelerative rush to a vette ZR1 ?

some stats on the ZR1:

curb weight: 1528kg

0-60mph: 3.3 seconds

quarter mile: 11.2 seconds and 130mph

hp at crank: 620

top speed: 205mph

carbon ceramic brakes, rear wheel drive of course..

ridiculous wide torque curve from 2000 rpm to 7000 rpm..

(I realize a drag r34 can out drag it, a top secret r34 could out top speed it,

and a track r32 could out handle it..)

A R34 GTR N1 factory stock ran a 1/4 mile in 12.1 from memory so it's not far off.

Tuning would need to done for sure tho, as in Performance, Suspension, Drivetrain and Weight Reduction would help.

You know the MCR R34 GTR... Yeah... As you started a thread about its gearbox not too long ago...

That beat MCR's stock R35 GTR on Tsukuba circuit...

The R35 GTR and Corvette ZR1 are about the similar level in performance...

So I would say yes tuned R34 GTR can similar or better performance to the ZR1.

But that's with any car... You got the money to tune your R34 GTR you can beat anything on a track.

I'd love a ride in the ZR1 after seeing it on top gear when they did that

trip to the salt flats.. the shove at any RPM was completely visible. His seat practically

bent 6 inches.. as clarkson said, ludicrous and unexpected ..

I have a feeling it is more ludicrous than a stock R35, and a tuned R34.

yeah but its kinda different

from memory the GT-R R35 costs around around 70,000 or something

and the Zr1 costs double that...

its the ULTIMATE corvette if you think about it.

the GT-R that ran the Nurburgring was the base model....

nissan havent bought out the big guns yet...

in the near future spec-V will attend the ring... and god knows what else they have up thier sleeves..

in a way the ZR1 is practically a muscle car but nearly an exotic...

well the zr1 base msrp is ~$110k however the R35 v-spec which appears to be barely quicker than the R35

is +$50k over the ZR1!

But yeah I get what you mean, the zr1 is an american exotic, for sure.

But the first v-spec R35 appears to be just price gouging.

Nissan already did 7:27 on the N'Ring, so its 1 second off the ZR1.

A good weight reduction, more power and even better refined suspension and drivetrain set up.

yeah but was the spec -v times official?

from memory it wasnt

well what i meant was, its still early... u never know, might be Nismo factory specials....or R-tune and Z-tune of the R35 to come in the near future...

then it will teach the Zr1 some manners

Base model Series II Nissan GT-R with a 7:27.56 lap.

The car was standard except for being fitted with optional Nismo ClubSport package Rays 20″ forged aluminium wheels.

Dunlop tires were fitted to the Rays wheels.

shit your right, its creeping up to the corvette ZR1

but still, you missed the point.....

apparently the Spec v is only 5hp more than the base model but putting it on the track there is a huge difference. not only the weight reduction but the braking as well.... i recall the article stated the Brakes on the Spec-v costed 50,000$ for replacement.... but they are designed to rarely wear out.

i read that in an article on this sites r35 forum.

if it is...then it really should shave some more time.... and this time instead of porsche crying..

corvette might have a winge

and why is Pagani zonda in there twice... they should scrap the Pagani lower times and keep the record times by that EVO Magazine

LOL!

Yes I see what you are saying about the Spec-V.

I was just letting you know a base model can achieve such a close time... Imagine what the Spec-V can do.

Spec-V Specifications

Carbon fiber rear spoiler, grille, and brake ducts.

Carbon fiber Recaro front seats with the rear seats being completely removed.

Carbon fiber covers the center storage box, instrument panel, and replaces the majority of the interior trim.

Overall weight is decreased by 132 lb (60 kg) over the standard GT-R.

That should help with light weighting the car.

The GT-R Spec-V is powered by the standard twin-turbo 3,799 cc (3.8 L; 231.8 cu in) V6 with no increase in (peak) horsepower, but a new high gear boost controller that temporarily increases boost pressure should deliver more torque in mid to high-range revs.

Other mechanical changes include a titanium exhaust, reworked suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and 20-inch (510 mm) NISMO wheels.

This should be easy to get to the ZR1 N-Ring time if not better.

well if corvette doesnt have a winge... then definately muscle fans WILL!!!

i can guarantee this...especially in USA. (they really are, against japanese imports)

What about the R34 Z-tune? Has it been times around the N-ring? I thought they ran a pretty outrageous 1/4 time as well??

well there is a video of the R34 Z-tune at the nurburgring

but there is no official records..

something about the driver going airborne which didnt give it a good track time...

and that was it....never heard from that car again

apparently Spec-V nissan is confident that it will be 5 sec faster

Hah!

You tried talking on an American Car Forum?

I have, it's like talking to a brick wall.

They are too in love with there V8's and love kissing Euro ass.

Not a problem.

Call Ben at Racepace, tell him you need one of his 2.93L RB26 strokers with the rest of his bolt on mods. Then a month later drop off an R34GTR.

From memory that car had about 600hp at the wheels, full interior, 150rwkw at 2000rpm and redline was quite high. Carbon brakes are doable, but not cheap.

Weight reduction is fairly straightforward aswel.

Wont be cheap though

nah i havent on the forum

but if you look those Supra videos hammering Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros...

the comments section are full of them.

they really do get upset, about their cars being beat.

i know what you mean about brick wall.

im dont like muscle cars but i can accept them for what they are...

but to them......its like "nope.... jap..........its crap"

    • Well, I can recommend the partial AV system translation CD I ordered from Car Audio Workshop in NZ. Whilst it didn't address the date issue, it has conveniently translated on-screen menu items into English, and now allows the GPS-received time to be offset in hours rather than minutes, so I can display Eastern Australian time accurately ( and bump it by another hour when daylight savings starts ).
    • Yuh, if it's 45°C outside, my car is driving in it.
    • I'd be curious to hear more. Otherwise, have you driven a modern x-trail? I wonder how it compares. Here in Australia they are/were popular for rentals and fleet vehicles. I have been in some and my impression was they are bad. But, this may have been very different in the 2000s at a good trim level. Twenty years is plenty of time to make the model worse. I do very much agree with the 2 silver cars in the garage approach. But, not driving because it's too hot would not leave a lot of time in the year for many Australians. I don't think you need to worry too much unless the car has actual issues with overheating.
    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
