Try turning off your climate control completely and see if the noise stops.

There is an actuator in there that makes the critter noises when it is shagged, seems to be fairly common on our aging Skylines.

Fixing it is a real PITA if that's the problem.

Mine does it too, regardless of the climate control being on or off. It's more likely to happen first thing in the morning though... I've been told by a mechanic that it's to do with the vents that circulate the air into the cabin...

Do they circulate fresh air even when climate control is off?

    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
    • Sounds like a misfire. Check fuel pressure and don't even think about going into boost while it's like this unless you enjoy engine rebuilds.
