This is what i had intended to do to my RB20...but with an OS holiday next year and work etc, i cant really see myslef doing it.

Bore the engine to use 81 or 82 mm forged pistons, balance and prep std rods and crank, serviced head, with some basic match porting and cleaning up, GTR oil pump, 8.7:1 compression, 264 cams and new valve springs. HPC coated valve faces, exhaust valves stems and combustion chambers.

If i could score an RB26 crank and rods off a friend for the right price i would also use those as the additional cost for machining was only another $200.

So for about $4500-5000 i would be able to run 1.5bar from my TD06 and use a 8,500 rev limit. I would expect a damn strong 250-260rwkws with full boost coming on strong at around 3,600-3800rpm. Then as a T67 bolts to my current manifold and dump,

300rwkws would only be a turbo change away less the sale price of my TD06.

Ok guys, this has opened a real can of worms. So lets get back to the main topic hey. Im not too worried about gearing and speeds of silvias and skylines etc. Basicly, for the show, the next project car is the skyline, and our aim is to make the toughest R32 skyline, using the RB20 motor. The RB25 and RB26 are all good and stuff, but how many kickarse RB20's are there? None that i know of. So, basicly, all i really want to know, is what turbo setup should i use to gain that power figure. It really doesnt matter if its for track or drag or street, i really dont think that is an issue. Basicly the car will be showed around aus, so we can eliminate that issue. The gearing is all well and good, but im not worried about what power it will be making at what revs and gears, all interesting though. It is a decision between doing a single turbo setup, or a sequential turbo setup. The rev ranges are general ideas on where we want boost to be at. I would prefer them to be lower and flow right through.

As this is a sponsored car, anything is possible.

This is a rough idea on what will be done to the motor.

New forged cams

Metal Headgasket

port/polish

forged pistons

forged crank

Block shot peened for strength.

Blue printed

Larger sump with baffels

12a injectors

Larger fuel pump

Computer

New turbo with external waste gates. Either single or twin setup

All intake piping

Largish intercooler( From boonet to bottom of gtr lip, and spotlight to spotlight. IS a biggen)

Larger throttle body

Larger plenum

Tuned intake manifold piping

Tuned exhaust manifold piping

3.5inch Twin dump

3.5-4inch exhuast( but retaining quietness, well, close... maybe not..?!)

New 6 speed box(possibly s15 box. Have parts strengthened for the job)

Double or triple brass button( has single now, is bitch to drive with)

Strengthened tailshaft

Diff, not so sure. Have been told will handle power. Well, everything bar the box will handle the power we have been told. But doing all the work to make it a bulletproof setup. What want the power, and the reliabilty. All persons involved say its a reasonable goal, and is a piece of cake.

AS i said before, with sponsorship, anything can be done.

Different story here - before it was 400rwhp with good boost under 4k

agree with rbs13 go rb25 g.box - tough as nails

also, I would suggest something like an OS Giken twin plate - nice take up and will easily hold 400rwhp.

Turbo - Something like a HKS 3037, 3040 or garrett GT30 or GT35R, also as suggested T67 (but will be a bit more laggy).

Something like a 3037S 56T with a 0.73 turbine AR, around 1.5-1.7bar bar(use a 0.87housing if you dont want to have to use that much boost pressure, but from the sounds of your build up the engine wont have a problem) and you will have 400, or if you think you may want to try and get a few more ponies out for dyno comps, try a HKS 3040, but you will probably find it a bit more laggy, maybe another 500+rpm.

Some suggestions anyways.

All persons involved say its a reasonable goal, and is a piece of cake.

Well since it seems like you have sponsorship and ppl building the engine, they will best be able to tell you what suits your needs.

Something like a 3037S 56T with a 0.73 turbine AR

Thats two votes.

Thanks for the replys guys, just wanted some feedback from the people who know the skylines the best. We dont want to be wasting time with people thinking this should do it etc etc.. What do you guys think for a twin sequential setup?

agree with roy there.. but a twin t25's should work.... and boost up.. that would cut costs down.. as the turbos are cheap but the manifolds mite even up the cost compared to a big single.. if u want a drag car.. go auto with trans brake and a stally.. use the nos to bring the turbo on.. and you WILL run VERY quick times.. no fun for the street tho.. just suggesting some thigns.

    • Hi, i’m making a rb25det coil loom for Vag short coil. Can anybody tell me which Ecu signal wire belong to coil number 1 and 2,3,4,5,6? The connecting switch in above pic is 8 wire i think white is for +12v and black for earth.
    • Was there ever a model of the Stagea m35 that didnt have a badge on the grill? I thought I saw that somewhere, some aero edition or something? I cant find it again? davemoto
    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
