hey people i need some help!

i am about to turbo my 1989 R31 skyline and i am worried about my diff snaping!

are the axels strong in the diffs?

are the centers strong??

if i get a spool for it will i need to buy a shit load of axels???

WHAT HAS EVERYONE ELSE GOT IN THEIR R31s??

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO DRIFT IT WITHOUT WORRYIN ABOUT THE DIFF ALL THE TIME

any help would be great!

thanx

Do you need to drive it on the street regulary?

If not just get a VL V8 diff or a VL turbo diff just make sure that it is a 28 spline one and get a mini spool from ebay. if you break that you are doing well.

BTW i have a VL V8 diff here in Newcastle if ya need one PM me.

Yeah bud as old mate above said mini spool or lokka www.4wdsystems.com.au I give mine hell and she is sweet. tyres also have a bearing on axle snappage, its grip not slip that breaks shit :P

R31 skylines have a 4 pinion 28 spline from factory. Diff will be fine. I've only ever heard of a few axles shearing off, nothing to be concerned about. Having a spool will not be that nice to the axles in the long run but then again you will be drifting :P

thanx for the heads up guys!

i had the rb30et that im goin to put in my R31 in another car (VK not a VL) and had a 9inch behind it so i had no dramas, then i sold the 9inch to a mate and i put his V8 diff in and i blew it up in 3 days! thats why i was so worried!

i no im guna break stuff coz i will be driftin it, i just dont want it to be a weekly diff swap!

so the vl diff fits the skyline? i didnt no that!

anyother ideas ??? keep em comin

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

PS: this is going to be my regod Daily drifter, so dont want to make it undrivable

R31 pintaras have weak diffs/driveshafts, R31 skylines are strong as.

I daily drove an R31 with a minispool in it for 3 years, busted the tailshaft in it from a hard launch but the driveshafts took all sorts of punishment and were still perfect.

  • 1 month later...

not sure if this is still active but here's my 2c

vl diff's do not fit unless u modify the mounts, but there is no point in that as others have previously said r31 diffs hold up just fine. i have had my 31 spooled for more than 4yrs and never broken an axle now its turbs and still holds up fine with constant thrashing

and to break a 28 spline axle it either cause it was already stuffed or you actually have the power to break em

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
