niran
Hey every one this weekend i decided to remove my clutch as it was worn and put a new one in. After removing the gearbox and then the clutch I saw that the fly wheel itself did not have a smooth finish and was also worn or not worth using, so I brought a new fly wheel. That was all good however i cannot remove the bolts to get the fly wheel off. So far i have tried using a breaker bar which has a ½ inch head, and also used a hammer drill (air gun) that is rated at 80-100psi. However still no movement what so ever off the bolts. Does anyone know what else i could do to try removing them? Someone said heat them up however would that cause the actual metal to lose its strength and end up snapping when i put force to remove it? Another person said instead of using a air gun that has a 1/2 inch socket head use one that would have a ¾ inch head as it is bigger hence more strength, would that work? Oh also the car itself is on axel stands so I don’t have bulk room under the car but enough to have pulled the gearbox itself out. The car is an r32 gts-t with the rb20det if that’s of any help. Thanks guys any help extremely appreciated Niran Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/276853-flywheel-removale/ Share on other sites
2LV8ETR
First, why didn't you have the flywheel machined instead of buying a new one? Second, use an impact driver on the bolts. If you don't know what one is, no it's not a rattle gun. It's a solidly built cylindrical tool that you put your socket onto, place it against the offending bolt, then hit the bitch with a wife pacifier. it drives the force of the hammer blow onto the bolt and provides a small twist at the same time that undoes the bolt. Hey man because there was someone selling one that had already been machined and did not have a use of it anymore, so I brought that instead of having mine machined specially when it only cost $50 bucks. Also yer i know what it is, i shall try it out tomorrow. blind_elk
Doubt an impact driver will work on flywheel bolts. Flywheel bolts are generally torqued to "FT". And they probably start to almost weld themselves in with time. Try soaking in WD40. Then get a L O O N N N G breaker bar. 2LV8ETR
Doubt an impact driver will work on flywheel bolts. That's weird, it's worked every time the breaker's failed. I must be a charmed and lucky person... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/276853-flywheel-removale/#findComment-4685567 Share on other sites
32black
Yeah usaully really fking tight, make sure you got enough psi in your compresor to run your rattle gun, a good 1/2 drive should do it, if not go to the 3/4 but once again you will need more preasure to run it. Seekers PowerBuild
your last bet is using a long craw bar jam it inbetween the flywheel ring gear and the gearbox dale, and other person use the breaker bar to crack the bolts,or hold on to the harmonic balancer and try to crack it.. niran
Hey guys Yer i finally got the bolts off. ended up putting one off the bolts through the gearbox holes and then put another bolt in between the actual flywheel teeth and the bolt so that it would lock in place and wont slip when i apply the a long breaker bar. After that just got a big breaker bar and got another mate to pull from one side while i pushed and finally got them off. Thanks every one for your help Much appreciated, Niran Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/276853-flywheel-removale/#findComment-4706068 Share on other sites
