Nice pics mate!

Maybe try some panning shots next time too! Good captures.

Thanks. I tried some panning shots, but the slowest pan speed i could go was about 1/80 before it becomes too blurry, so I pretty much stuck with that the whole day. Still need to prac panning.

Saw your site as well. Just wondering, what lens and speeds were the pans taken at?

1/80 should be low as you should go..

ideally anywhere between 1/100-1/250 will be good.. You should have got some great panning shots with 1/80.. Post up some samples perhaps?

The ones I had posted up are at 1/100 or 1/80. I think the lack of pan-blur was because the corner I was on was a hairpin so they were coming towards me, rather than a side on shot. The variations in blue were also due to a polariser

Thanks for browsing my site champ!

All shots were taken with a Canon 50D and a Canon 300 2.8L IS with a 1.4xTC stuck on them for most of them. At the SAU track day, panning shots were taken at 1/40th-1/80th and at BMW Super Sprint the shots varied again, between 1/30th-1/60th. Cars were going around 100-150 km/h.

Reason i went lower was for more blur as well as more wheel motion blur. You are correct on saying that the hairpin is probably why you don't have so much blur because they were moving a bit slower.

SAU was taken at Oran Park GP and BMW was at wakefield.

With more practice you will definately get better, if this is your first attempt at panning then you have excelled! If your finding it hard to get good pans due to harsh lighting, use either a polarizer or an ND (Neutral Density) filter, or open up your aperture to lower your Shutter speed. You may need to stack or use a higher grade of ND filter to get the preferred shutter speed.

Your last shot of the Astra seems really flat and "blue-ish". Is this an edit or incorrect white balance?

Post up more shots mate :)

Thanks, first time ever at a track.

I normally have it set to auto white balance and my pshop skills arent very good. Might have been the whiteness of the astra messing with the AWB?

Also used a B+W polariser, so as I was twisting on the spot, frontal and back end shots would have looked a little different.

I'm looking at getting an ND filter and the Canon TC but am really short on cash atm lol.

Heres a few more from the day http://www.flickr.com/photos/tenchi12/sets...57620769855882/

This one was taken at 400mm from the stands. Cropped and one of the few decent shots at the start of the day from the stands

Shot with a 400mm? You got a 400 2.8! Awesome. Unless you mean you have a 100-400 or something. Yeah i corrected that astra in photoshop for correct white balance, but it just seems like it was "flat" out of the camera. I donno, could be many things, but its just the one single photo..

Great pics by the way mate, good first attempt!

Heh nah shot with a 100-400mm. Not rich enough for a 400 2.8. One day though...maybe even a 600mm. Btw let me know if you go to another motorsports event so I can tag along xD

No problem mate :P

Pretty sure i will be heading out to the "Texikhana" SAU is holding on the 29th August (IF i'm not in NZ snowboarding) i think a few other 'togs are going as well, should be a good day. I might also be going to Circuit Clubs wakefield day on the 25th of July at wakefield. I will let you know :)

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
