Good Afternoon,

I've placed a deposit on and am due for delivery on Sunday afternoon of an R34 GT-T from a yard on parramatta road in homebush. Looks to be bog stock other than some rear end damage in the past. Nothing really noticeable but no badges at the back and poor finish on the driver's side 1/4. The dash reads 68k which is questionable but the interior looks to have been about that far and the guages stock. Has been here for four years and all the codes check out with nissan's files.

Since it is so stock I'd like to maintain the appearance but do exhaust, air filter and possibly computer (piggy back?) but as I'm new to these new cars thought I'd see what I can find around here... any suggestions? It is the neo 2.5L. I'd really appreciate any local tuning shop suggestions that you could offer - I'm in the eastern suburbs of sydney (coogee) and work in Sutherland. Also, I'd kinda like it to make that blow off sound but have no idea why other than my mate's r33 gtr does.

Please forgive my ignorance, this is my first car made after my birth (1976) and my other two cars are a '71 240Z Datsun and a '68 GT/CS Mustang - one of those Ford sales pitches with Carol Shelby putting fibreglass bits all over a stock 68 mustang and they called it a California Special - just coincidental that they have the same initials as Carrol I'm sure. The Datsun is stock and the mustang sports a HiPo V8 289 - great fun and heaps of noise but still slower than a stock GTT I reckon.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer or links to threads that might help my comprehension.

Scott

Firstly, depending on your budget I would suggest the following workshops that have a fairly good reputation. As with any business you will always have people saying good and bad things about them.

PowerPlay Imports (Drummoyne) - I use them for my 34 gtt and now my gtr.

Crodyon Racing Developments (Silverwater) - Never used them but my gtr all the work was done by them by previous owner.

I'm not sure about any other workshops that are actually in your area so someone else might be able to help and for that blow off sound noise you just need a vent to atmosphere bov which you can buy at any performance workshop or even justjap which are at kirrawee which is nearby sutherland.

On a side note i will have alot of quality second hand parts off my 34 gtt for sale soon so if you are interested pm me and i can tell you exactly what there is... powerplay is currently taking them off my car.

Thanks Drew,

I'm not able to PM as I've not done 10 posts. Very interested in your offer of the exhaust and BOV. If you want to give me a call I'm on 0401 616 313.

Scott.

Once I have the bits off the car I'll contact you, I also just noticed i didn't pay enough attention first off but your car is a coupe mine was a sedan... so exhaust would prob. have to be slightly modified to fit. I'll ask powerplay if they can do that or if its a exhaust place job.

Hi,

Hope you get around to reading this Drew - funny to post publicly but since I can't PM yet...

Went into Powerplay yesterday and got the engine pipe & high flow cat off your car. Rob & Jo were great (and the tea was legendary!). Hope you don't mind but they were happy to sell on the engine pipe, turbo dump and cat only. Have decided against any further mods for the car as these simple changes have eclipsed my hopes for the car. What potential these machines have!

I've now got a high flow air filter (in the std box) and a fujitsubo cat back in stainless (was hanging on the wall at powerplay) with your engine and high flow cat which matched perfectly. Paid about $300 for the engine pipe and cat with the turbo pipe on hold until we can get back and give rob enough time to swap it into our car. Hope that is cool with you Drew.

Many thanks,

Scott

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
