Hi all,

I am about to purchase a set of NGK Iridium IX LFR5AIX-11 Spark Plugs from the USA for the VQ35DE....Has anyone replaced their sparks with these NGKs and noticed any difference?

From experience, 3 years ago, I replaced my 1989 MX5 NA6CE with Iridium NGKs + NGK spark lead and notice a bit more response at high revs. But then again, I would think that it was more attributed to plugs + lead...and not just the plugs.

They are about $90 USD...so am I wasting money?

Also, for those interested, someone has posted a set of NGK Laser Platinum Premium PLFR5A-11 on ebay for the VQ35DE for $99 or something like that....But I don't think that they are iridium...

Are there differing levels of "coldness" to the spark plugs?

When I used to drive and modify my Subaru Forester, it was recommended to upgrade to "one step colder" spark plugs for every 50-100bhp increase. I believe Iridium is the most common upgrade, now they have Platinum or Copper tips, of the differences between these I have no idea.

I dont have any experience using them in the VQ35.

However, i've had a set in a 2JZGTE and a 4G63.

IMO they are a waste of money. Im happy paying $4 for regular copper plugs, and changing them every 5,000 - 10,000kms.

To be honest my evo felt like it went better after putting in fresh coppers (and taking out the old iridiums that were in there).

I thought the 5's were standard? Am i wrong?

6's are one step colder and I've changed mine to these just recently just for the heck of it. Can't say I really noticed the difference after 3000kays.

I know they are ridiculously overpriced at the usual automarts, but don't need to buy them from the US, buy them from Harold at http://www.performancelub.com

Top bloke, the price for 6 IX plugs has gone up to about $94 delivered though since then.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
