Drivin home last night, snail went pop, emo deep inside me came out.. anyway, Im thinking of rebuilding the 3037s and putting a t3 .82 rear on it (currently running .73 t2) or should i just fork out the bigger bucks and go for a gt35r with a .63 rear? Either way ive got to buy a 6boost and f**k the t2 mani off. So whats your thorts? Its a redtop rb2.2 with tomei poncams.

Hmmm...so many options...what kind of power are you after and how much response do you wanna lose down low? i'd lean towards a gt3076 with a 0.63 exhaust housing...or maybe a 0.82 but that might be quite large for a 2.2L...

Red top is an R31 engine isn't it ?

You can answer you rebuild question by asking yourself if you liked the performance you had before the puff of smoke .

I would be very wary of GT3582Rs on an RB20 based engine , pretty big turbine and compressor for an engine with small cylinders ie 2L based six cylinder .

If you hold high hopes of generating and using 320Kw then a turbo like that may have some value , I can't see it ...

Even GT30 based turbos are pretty healthy sized things on an RB20 (+10%) , people tell me it's the limited valve and port area in them that dictates gas flow and therefore power ceilings .

Anyhow you need to identify which 3037 you have to know what can be done with it . If it's same one as the GT3076R then you can order cartridges for them and fit whichever sized GT30 turbine housing you like in gated or non gated form .

If your 3037 has a ported comp cover try to reuse that , could save you some money .

If you can post the ID tags numbers I can identify which one it is and then its a case of seeing which parts need to be replaced if you want to go that way .

Your call , cheers A .

I dont mind the 3037, but it will still be really hard to break 400 @ the wheels with it, the gt35 on the other hand will produce more power with lower boost which id much rather have. My main concern is how laggy it will be, i dont mind abit of lag aslong as its on before 5.5kish.

A loose water line won't cook it, thats more of an additional safety thing - so long as it had a good oil feed/drain it should have been fine.

Either way, a GT3076R will crack 400hp @ wheels fine... if you are struggling to with a 56-trim full GT3076R then its the engine moreso than the turbo which isn't flowing enough.

400rwhp with a 3076r isnt really the easiest thing to achieve with an rb20... sry but i dont agree with your post.

What you said above is not disagreeing with my post - a GT3076R is FINE for 400rwhp, and as you said above its not the easiest thing to do on an RB20. Thats not because of the RB20 + GT3076R combination, its because of the RB20 part of it. You have to spend the money to make an RB20 making >400whp, or push it that hard. GT3076Rs are making >400whp left right and centre on better motors - you could upgrade to an RB25 when you change your turbo then the 400whp will be easy >_<

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
    • Is this a brand new LSD? if so, have you followed any break/bed in procedure for it? Usually involves heaps of figure 8 patterns, a fluid flush.
