Turbo Engine Swap

Hey All,

Just a few quick questions about an engine swap, not so much the physical swap but the paper work to go with it.

First off, the engine numbers, what do I have to do to get this changed on my registration? (I'm in Victoria if you need to know) Do I simply make an appointment at VicRoads and have them check the numbers and its all good?!?

Also engineering, I’ve been told that no engineering certificate is required but I just want to be sure. I'm putting an RB25DET (out of a stagea) into a GTS4, I'm upgrading all the hubs to 5 stud as well as the calipers to the ones form a GTS-T. Now I believe the modification is all good, but just to be sure.

Are there any other authorities ect. that I will have to contact to make it legit?!?

I've been through this before. Ring VicRoads.

As its an import, most likely you will need an appointment and an engineers.

Each scenario is different, get it in writing from them, otherwise its all just speculation over the internet.

Well i have done some research and so far i have found:

-To change engine numbers you must go to VicRoads and fill out a change of discription form, no booking is needed, you must have the car with you and proof of ownership of the engine

-you dont need to go as far as an engineering cert, apparently there is something called a VASS cert, its for simple convertion (like the one im doing) and is between a road worthy and an engineering cert.

Anyone know more about this VASS thing? and can anyone recomend someone who is reasonably priced?

Been there, so have a few of my friends. They were the most straight forward, and reasonably priced compared to 4 other places i rang for quotes etc (to the tune of $200)

Gave them a call the other day explained what im doing and he told me it will cost $650, slightly more than the $200 i was expecting, have i asked for the wrong thing?!? What is it exactly im wanting?

$650 is what is costs mate.

$500-550 for a cert, $150 for the brake test (mandatory regardless of how they are)
