As above,

Does anyone have any recommendations? I need a large body, oval muffler to quiet down my 3 inch turbo back system. I've heard the X-Force range are pretty good, and quite cost effective. I accept that it probably won't quiet it down to a legal level, i.e under 90db, but i'm sure it might be sutable in the interim.

Basically, I need to pi$$ off the crappy loud cannon on it at the moment, and come up with something a little less "over the top".

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I will have a Magnaflow 3.5 inch oval muffler for sale soon, It is basically new but I am talking it off to replace it with a different one.

I think the part # is 14151 on the Magnaflow website, it has done about 500km, if you are interested let me know

I Have a Kakimoto Oval style cat back (3") ... to quiet for me..lol... came with the car... if someone is willing to swap it with a jap branded aftermarket system i'd be glad to.... but for this topic i have found this system to be quiet and not attract attention (cough cough gutted cat also cough cough)..

do you have a mid muffler also on your setup?

looking to do the same thing also as mine is 3" all the way through with only a canon and its way to loud.

would putting a oval muffler at the end instead of canon be the best?

or leave the canon and go mid muffler?

or change both?

its just way to loud and droney at the moment

Not a problem mate, i'm in exactly the same predicament. I'm planning on changing both the muffler and the mid-muffler.

I just bought one of the MP02 mufflers, delivered for $225. I've heard good things about them. That should quiet it down a little. Now just to change the crappy hot-dog into something larger/quieter, and hopefully I should have a system close or under 90db.

yeah seems to be the way to go.

i was actually looking at the magnaflow versions on that site. they're a bit more pricey though.

anyone know if theres a huge difference?

i'll probably change to an oval muffler either single or twin tipped. then if i need more quietness i'll throw a mid muffler in aswell

If you're changing both mufflers why not go the whole hog and get a whole catback? That's what I did, to save time and effort cutting and welding again.

I considered that, but I got my cat back pretty cheaply, and it has been custom made to run along the standard exhaust route, for a really stock look, so I guess, for me it will probably be more economical to have the new mufflers welded in. I can understand your logic though bloke, that's for sure.

Lol well I paid $150 for a JASMA compliant twin straight through muffler 5Zigen exhaust to replace my old straight through one (I admit it needed about $20 worth of welding on the front muffler and rear hanger tho), but I can understand if you want something brand new on there.

Would have loved a brand new Kakimoto catback, but $$$$$ was a factor (not to mention a $567 EPA fine which I got AFTER buying the new exhaust!)

The pipe between the mufflers is the cheapest bit mate. It's the mufflers that cost $$$. Escpecially if it's mild steel

    • Hi, i’m making a rb25det coil loom for Vag short coil. Can anybody tell me which Ecu signal wire belong to coil number 1 and 2,3,4,5,6? The connecting switch in above pic is 8 wire i think white is for +12v and black for earth.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
