they cant of bent the clutch plates letting the box hang off it.........

Well that's great to hear. :)

I played with adjustment on the weekend and the fork is going as far as it can from the pedal from what we can see, 45mm is it. I bled the clutch on the weekend and it made a big difference. They didn't even do that. :P Pretty great service for $159/hour. I get the feeling the workshop didn't remove the clutch the second time at all.

Either way my car has a blown turbo so that needs to be fixed too.

I think it was a question, not a statement.

It is extremely likely the plate has been bent by hanging the box off it. It will also cause the exact same symptoms you are describing.

Yeah it seems like there is only mm in it. I can also hear the throw out whining just a tiny bit as you press the clutch, then it slow down after a long time and you can engage the gear easier - but sometimes it just seems to never stop.

Given the ducking and diving, complaining and digging for excuses before I even knew what was up that the Toyota apprentice who installed it did when I arrived the first time to pick it up, I would not at all be surprised. Let alone the lack of things done and the condition other parts of the car were in (stereo, interior trim, black marks on the mats, fluid not bled) and the 40mins waiting I did each time I went to pick it up. All for a brilliant price of only $159/hour.

Unfortunately (for them) a lot of people on here go to and recommend the same place. I will give the owner 8/10 for his sales ability and his talking skills, giving the aura of professionalism and charging accordingly that's for sure! Shame there is f**k all to back it up by way of service.

Holy jesus!

$159/hour?

I don't even think Nissan charge that high. How can they justify that much? I do clutch installs on GTR's for $308 which works out to be 3.5hrs at $88/hour. I could get away with maybe $100-$110/hour but that's kinda ridiculous for grease monkey work. If it were for diagnostics using expensive equipment or dyno tuning where the dyno costs have to be factored in, you could understand.

I hope you can get it sorted out mate, for $159/hour I would expect there to be a decent warranty policy involved.

Mate let me tell you my eyes fell out of my head. It cost me $972 all up. I was told it was a massive job and quoted $780, part of the reason I didn't attempt it myself. By far the greatest rip off I have ever come across having owned 30 performance cars over the past 8 or 9 years.

The issue is that I supplied the clutch, which was brand new from Japan. They have therefore blamed the thing they did not supply and charged me like a wounded bull. I am now in a difficult position.

Do I take it elsewhere and have the box removed to see what they have or haven't done? And then put the potentially f**ked clutch back in or pay another $2+k for another one? Either way it costs me big dollars.

LOL, I should scan the offending invoice for a laugh!

Bit of an update.

I've taken the car elsewhere and the speculation was that if the plate was bent badly it would shudder more than it does, that or the scopot has been stuff on installation, or the throw out is incorrect or incorrectly installed. He suggested a drive it for a while and see how it goes before I take it back to them.

The clutch is 100% better now, sometimes showing no issues. Before it really had to be forced into gear and the car would creep - sometimes it's a hard to get in (and you can hear it 'wind' down but still spin as it carries a little), but other times it's 100% with no issues.

I have noticed that the throw out bearing has begun to whine a little more noticeably, is this something to do with what's happening? :)

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
