Slight Thud On Startup

hi all,

just wondering if anyone has experienced a slight thud/clunk when cold starting their cars. Everything else is fine and drive is smooth. Just happens if the car has been sitting for a while and the engine is cold. Otherwise, engine is smooth as and shifts are smooth.

Does the sound come from underbody, if so, could be the exhaust system knocking on start up. Could check the rubber mounts for the system, even if not broken, can stretch after a while giving enough slack to knock the chassis on cold start only.

yes it does seem to be from the underbody. Thanks, I'll have a look under when I next have the car serviced.

maybe while you at it, you might want to check the handbrake (footbrake) as well? mine made a small thud noise when driving off after start up and my mechanic told me about checking that.
