i only managed a best of 1'23.9 in the Supra (PB = 1'23.1) and struggled with massive underbonnet temps (140'C after four laps) despite extra cooling mods (oil cooler, new radiator, extra thermo fan, more ducting) and new Brembo brakes. in hindsight, the rapid increase in temp and higher than normal boost levels recorded (1.5bar compared to the usual 1.2bar on track) with no improvement in speed or laptimes, were the early signs of my impending turbo failure - unfortunately this occurred on Tuesday morning when i went out again with the intention of breaking 1'22. interestingly, Trent (one of the instructors) only got 1'24.19 on a clear track when everyone went to lunch - he drove beautifully and it sounded like he was pushing hard, but analysis of that session reveals that my stock twins were already failing as we should have gone a lot faster. late braking and high corner speeds were let down by the lack of power on exit.

the fastest cars on the day that i know of were the R35 (a comfortable 1'22.08 - not bad for a four month old car after its first service!), the blue Evo IX (1'22.9 on street tires) and the black TT Supra (Dave with a stonking 1'23.13 on street tires). it's great to see that two Supras with stock turbos can put down some good 1'23 laptimes! ;) for the record, the stock R35 is good for 1'18 as Trent the instructor drove that laptime in it the next day.

for all those who couldn't attend - you missed out on an awesome event. the good news is that i will be running another trackday like this in March next year, so start planning now!

Hi,

I am Steve with the Blue Supra, Great to catch up with you guys!

Copied and pasted from SASupra:

Well done to everyone great day, thanks Kim for organising it. :)

Personally I was aiming for a 1:29 or a 1:28 as I saw darren "yiros" had got a best of 1:29.84 (fastest N/A as per his sig).

I just looked up that track day and saw that he did that on semi slicks so I am even more impressed that I did the 1:28 on street tyres!

All of the pics I took on my iphone failed??? So the only ones are a couple from my hand held digital. Here they are:

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
