Hey guys,

I haven't posted here much, so be nice :( . I read this forum quite alot, and I know you guys see alot of Turbo's vs. Cops threads.

Just out of curiousity, and no, I'm not looking at buying a turbo for moar power, I'm simply interested because Skylines (r32, r33 and even r34's) are going less than the N/A cars, purley because as being on your P's (in Victoria) you're limited to no V8's, Super or Turbochargers, so the N/A's cars, in theory, hold some value. I was interested in applying for an exemption, and I was told that if the car was purchased in your parents name, Mother or Father, and it was insured through their name (obviously you as a nominated driver), you could drive a turbo if they accepted your case.

Is this true?

Thoughts?

Insurance?

Pro's + Cons?

Thanks!

go ask vicroads or read the rules

its for if you require a certian model car/engine for work purposes

ie driving a ute with a v8 for work as you move around heavy stuff etc

you could try exemption from your employer saying you must drive a v8 ute or whatnot

For people who actually have a justified reason.

ie -

Skyline can only be in your parents name

Your parents can only own ONE CAR - it HAS to be the skyline

One of your parents has a medical condition that requires you to transport them to the hospital once a week

etc etc

Driving outside the exemption would see you in more serious shit because

1. You lied, your parents lied on a Gov't form

2. You are driving a banned car

3. You are driving outside the exemption

So other than some failing & utterly ridiculous reason like that, which they see every day and get knocked back more than you can imagine, you cannot get around it.

Cause i mean lets face it, it is not as if they have no car, let alone a banned turbo jap import that their son wants to drive.

Please ring the authorities yourself and find out just how hard it is please. Or read one of the 15-20 or so "can i drive a turbo on my Ps" thread that reside in the Vic section where people have tried to think of ways as have you, and ultimately realised that it is a pipe dream :(

You simply being a nominated driver is nothing. The Victorian laws already cover that very simplistic loop hole.

Thanks

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
