I have a n/a r33 im buying a gtst engine to put in it and im Hunting down a Apexi pfc.

Ive found 1 brand new for $1300 delivered, here's the deal.

The guy/shop "From overseas" has told me when i buy it i get 12month manufacturer warrenty, so when i purchase it from him to keep the reciept

and if anything goes wrong to send it back to him with the receipt and he will forward it to apexi, who will look over it and make sure its not tampered with

and repair it for free of charge.

he also told me that the pfc only works with a manual rb25det r33 transmission's is this normal cause he said thats how they are?

but what im worried about is, should i buy it from this guy for $1300 and get this "apexi warrenty" or should i pay $2000 from aus?

IF something was faulty i know ide have to send it to him and so forth,

BUT

IF i bought it from AUS would i get a 12month straight up replacement warrenty or ide still have to ship it off to apexi?

btw he already told me the part # and i googled it and its the correct 1 for my model car.

Theres plenty of people selling 2nd hand ones here for that price or better why bother going from overseas, I wouldnt be to concerned with the warranty because I wouldnt expect to see it again for a long time if you sent it back to him and besides the ecus are high grade they are not known for breaking so my advice just pay 1100-1300 mark over here from someone

yeah fair enough, ive tried looking on this forum everynight for the past 2 weeks now and i can find 1 that hasnt already been sold...

i dont need the commander... only the pfc but if 1 comes along with both ide still take it.

would u buy it from overseas though cause it is new?

if i got it from someone on here i wouldnt get any warrenty at all,

so as u said they dont brake so wouldnt it be fine to buy it from him and not worry about the warrenty?

but if someone knows somebody who is selling one could u please pm me otherwise im going to have to buy from this overseas dude...

i just dont wanna get left with some peice of poop

Someone that is overseas is not bound to honour any warranty at all.

Given they are not under Australian law

yeah i didnt think so, but he said on any brand new apexi product u get your manufacturers warrenty so it is apexi who would be giving the warrenty or am i missing something here?

cause i was just about to buy it since i thought ill get a brand new 1 from overseas with or without warrenty ( cause its new ) for $1300 delivered

or

get a second hand 1 from joe blow in aus for $1300 with no warrenty aswell?

what do u think cause im tossing up which 1 to do... ive asked a few friends and its pretty much even but

you guys on here would have more experience then them so please give me your thoughts on what to do

If your just after the ecu without the controller youll find people here selling for 1000, its true it took me a few goes before I found one they get sold pretty quick , I would just avoid overseas with things like this becuase if it doesnt work in the start when you get it youll have a headache , if it was me I would want to buy from someone where I could go pick it up off them so if something does play up you know exactly who you dealt with, I bought mine off a guy off here and went to hes house picked it up he wrote me a recipt and it was fine.

What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
