Hey guys, i recently purchased a N/A r33 GTS for a little under 4k a couple of months ago.

Problems with the car included:

- window motor needed replacing

- passenger seat belt needed adjusting

- squeaky noise when started (so far only on rare occasions :(

Anyways, i lost my license about a week before it arrived, was major bummed, but the law is the law and i have to wait 3 months. BUT! that was 2 months ago and im getting excited as ive been working on the car with the old man.

- window motor is replaced/fixed and operational

- passenger seat belt 100% a ok!

- noise i havn't gotten around to

What i have gotten around to is a brand new body kit! all Top secret, front bar, skirts and rear pods.

i didn't have the penny's to send it away so dad and i decided to "bond" ;) and do it ourselves.

This is what we have achieved so far

After purchasing the right paint, im playing to add a set of rims, im tossing up between Apec race 6 in shadow chrome or Apec Iniri Competion in gunmetal. Also the kid before me put these damn stickers on the car, there only small but id rather them gone, just gotta figure out how to get them off without ruining the paint. Im also tossing up whether to use black or silver mesh for the front bar.

go the iniri competitions for sure, will suit that colour very well. whereabouts are the stickers and how sticky are they? i forgot what i used but i debadged mine and it came up really nice, just make sure you give the spot a cut and polish after most of the residue is off

I'd say black mesh.

The stickers located either side near the rear wheel arch and they also put "skyline classic gt" near the side indicators on either side.they are stuck on pretty good, i heard a hair dryer would do the trick.

This is the only picture i have of the side atm, the shot was taking just before i purchased the car,

you probably already checked this, and im not sure if this happens on skylines, but the timing belt (or whichever straps around your fan in the engine bay) can squeak on start up if its old and loose. to see if thats the prob, rub some vasaline on it start it up when its cold, and if it doesnt squeak could be the problem. it wont squeak when its warm as heat expands things :P

Congrats on the buy mate, sounds like you got a bargain. I wish I could find one that cheap I reckon my dad would buy one he really liked driving my old NA 33.

Heres a quick chop of the wheels to try and help you decide, but remember the wheels might look different on the car in real life.

Kit should look good nice to see something different on a 33 for a change.

It's bes to get rid of the squeaky noise as opposed to covering it up.

Tighten all the fan belts.

If you notice the belts are old - get some new ones.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a heap for the photoshop :P , im thinking the iniri wheels more so, i dont want anything to fancy that takes your view away from the actual car lol.

About the noise, the guy i bought it off said it might be a clutch problem but he had never had a mechanic to look at it. The squeaking only happens on start up and on rare occassions, so when it did squeak, i put my foot on the clutch a little, the noise didnt change. Then i put my foot on the accelorator and the squeak noise changed as if i was putting pressure on something. The noise lasts for approx. 8-15 seconds. Not long but is very annoying and obvisouly not good for the car lol.

I have another 2 questions though. The original indicators dont fit the front bar. Just wondering what you guys use as "custom" indicators.

Also during the pre fitting process with the from grille. Its a 400r style grille but when i went to fit it, i noticed there isnt actually anything to attach it to the car/lights. Anyone else had this problem or should i just dump it and find a similliar grille with the fittings.

Thanks.

    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
