I've only very recently bought my 1997 Series III R33 GTR V-Spec, however a likely promotion means that I'll need a car that I can drive clients around in, which means unfortunately (very unfortunately), the GTR has to be sold. I find out if I've gotten the promotion by the end of this week, so I'm pre-empting the good news and placing the car for sale as of now.

This is a genuine GTR, genuine V-Spec and genuine Series III - in rare black. It has a very nice compliment of mods already performed, with easily over $15,000 spent in both maintenance and modifications in the last 8 months. There's really nothing more to spend as it's a great, powerful and complete package as-is.

Details:

  • Black Series III 1997 R33 GTR V-Spec - 83,500 kms. NSW rego till August 2010.
  • Series III V-Spec factory fitted goodies such as grey trim with red highlights and red stitching; dual airbags; lower front lip; V-Spec suspension; Xenon headlights (lenses slightly discoloured, but will be cleaned/polished to clear again).
  • Original adjustable GTR spoiler
  • Factory Series III rear R34 brake light pattern + rear fog lamp (and the odd single reverse light! :) )
  • Standard brembo brakes front and rear
  • Original GTR floor mats (front and rear) - excellent condition!
  • Nismo gear knob
  • 18x9 Volk GTC wheels (Top Secret Gold) with 265/35 rubber - in excellent condition.
  • Alpine CD/MP3 player with I-Pod cable and aux-in functionality
  • High quality alarm system (particular details will be disclosed only to the buyer)

Engine/power mods:

All mods were performed ~5,000kms ago (at ~78,000kms). I have paperwork (receipts and/or proof) for all of the mods performed. At the same time, the engine was given the major 100,000km service (all new gaskets, timing belt, water pump, all water/heater hoses replaced etc), as well as:

  • Garrett GT2860R -5 turbos
  • 3" stainless steel Hi-Tech exhaust
  • Apex'i power intake kit
  • HKS adjustable cam gears (dialled in to 'N1 spec')
  • Apex'i Power FC
  • Greddy B-Spec II Boost Controller (low boost = 0.8 bar / high boost = 1.1 bar)
  • Nismo fuel pump
  • Nismo 555cc injectors
  • Nismo fuel pressure regulator
  • Nismo 'sports' clutch
  • N1 oil pump
  • New water pump (plus heaps more maintenance/preventative service work done - all receipts available)

After all the mods were fitted, the Power FC was tuned by 'TuneHouse' in Marrickville and it made 290kw at all four wheels on their hub dyno (on 1.1bar "high boost"). A subsequent power run done on IS Motor Racing's very conservative dyno saw it make 248kw at all four wheels, again on 1.1 bar. Make of the dyno figures what you will. Needless to say, there's plenty more power available at higher boost levels if desired.

The car has just been serviced by the workshop that did the work, as well as checked over by another workshop - both have given it a clean bill of health. The car is ALWAYS driven on low boost - in fact, it's only ever been on high boost the day that my mechanic had it on the dyno. It's more than powerful enough for me on 0.8 bar.

As you can see from the pics, the car is built to look as standard as possible (apart from the wheels, of course). There is nothing in the engine bay (bar the filters - of which the intake adapters have been painted black) to indicate the mods that have been done or the potential the car has - everything from the exhaust tip through to the placement of the boost controller is discreet and sensible.

Asking Price: $30,000

No deposit = no test drive. I'm more than happy to take potential serious buyers for a drive, but please don't ask to drive the car unless we've agreed on the price and you've paid a deposit.

Please post questions here or PM me for any more details. I will get pics of the interior tonight (which show the red highlights in the seats/door trim and red stitching on the steering wheel).

Thanks

Daniel

Ben, it's actually not too bad at all (considering the mods).. The last couple of tanks have been a good combination of city/highway driving and I'm getting to ~350-400kms with the needle close to empty (but before the fuel light turns on - filled it with 54 litres at this point, so it still had another ~10 litres in there). I don't like letting the car run too low on fuel, so I haven't pushed it to see how far I can stretch the tank! I'd expect that on a full tank of highway driving it should see close to 500kms.

This is all on 0.8 bar and driving relatively 'normal' most of the time (well, as normal as possible with a car like this :( )

Bangaz Boy - I live near the Hurstville area (~25mins from CBD), but can also be at Drummoyne (~5mins from CBD). Where are you going to be?

Daniel, I'll be in Sydney next week from 19th Thursday till 23rd Monday, haven't worked out exactly where i'll be staying, either at the CBD or Manly. Either way hopefully i can work something out so I can view the car. Also how do you find the response on the street with the -5s ? Is there much boost / response below 4000 rpm? Cheers

Yes, that fuel economy isn't too bad - sounds like a little more than what I get out of my GTS-T.

Just wondering why there's such a huge power difference between your dyno readouts? Do you have them available? One thing it could be is if they've "dodgied" them by making a huge difference between the AT and IT settings. If you have more than say 5 degrees C diff, then most likely they're placing the temp probe somewhere hot so you get a larger number.

Edit: another question, what's the clutch like? Heavy? Light? Smooth or sudden takup? Is it rattly? I've never driven a GTR so I have nothing to compare it to, except for a friend's GTS-T that had an Exedy twin-plate. Very light, smooth takeup. Is it like that? Would be nice if it was :D

Bangaz Boy - not a problem mate. More than happy to meet up with you on the weekend that you're here if it's convenient for us both.

There is a little bit of lag with the -5's, but nothing unbearable. I notice it mostly (for example) when I'm caught off boost going up a hill, but shifting down resolves that issue. It is quite comfortable cruising off boost at low rpm's and doesn't take too long to spool up if you don't shift down. I find that there's plenty below 4000, but it's not stock turbo response down low.

Ben, The economy surprised me as I had expected it to be worse. Of course, fuel economy is best controlled with your right foot :D

I've got both dyno graphs available. The 290kw dyno was done by the tuner on their hub dyno and i wasn't present so unfortunately I can't comment on it. I was there for the ISMR dyno run at 243kw (sorry, the 248 above was a typo) - I've added it here for viewing (both boost and AFR's). It was a hot day and the car had done a few 'diagnostic' runs before the power run which may have affected the power output.

I'll scan the other one tomorrow and post it up.

The nismo 'sport' clutch is quite light and very easy and smooth to drive with. Infact, I would maybe prefer it to be a bit heavier!! hehe. My old S15 had a nismo super coppermix clutch and that was pretty light and friendly to drive with too, so maybe it's just that nismo clutches are nice and gentle :)

Thanks for posting the dyno graphs so quickly :D

You can see that there's only 2C diff between AT and IT, so that is an honest power readout. My guess is with the other one that it will be a lot more than 2C!

That's exactly what I wanted to hear with the clutch too :D I have an HKS twin-plate in my Supra and it is very light, probably 30% lighter than the stock (somewhat heavy) Supra clutch, *but* it's like an on-off switch! AND I had to learn how to drive a manual in that car... not fun... 3 months of driving at midnight in a uni before driving in traffic... but the bonus is now, I can use just about any clutch straight away and I can heel-toe almost perfectly on every downshift!! :)

Yep, the clutch/car is a pleasure to drive. My grandma could drive the thing...

All PM's replied :)

Original 289.9kw dyno graph attached.

Pics of interior coming soon.

Thanks

Daniel

(PS, find out about the promotion today - fingers crossed for me!!)

post-67758-1257975518_thumb.jpg

Hey Daniel, hope u got that promotion! Just wondering if u could pm ur contact details so I can contact u when I'm in Sydney next week. Cheers.

PM sent Bangaz/Nathan. Got the promotion so the car is 100% for sale now (wish I could keep it!!)

I've had some interest from members, but nothing will happen until next week as I'm unavailable this weekend.

Also, the car will most likely go up on carsales early next week as I'll need to move it and get a client-friendly car soon!!

Daniel, thanks for sending your PM. Got your contact details, i'm able to catch up with you when I'm in Sydney, I'll make sure of it :) i'll give you a call on the Thursday (19th) and work out a time that suits us both. Well done on the promotion! Just got one myself thats why i'm looking at taking the step in to GTR territory, although I don't have to worry about clients myself, just mates and the girl friend (she loves GTR's :() Anyway mate have a good weekend!

Daniel, could you please (if its no hassle) place some more pics of the interior, eg. steering wheel, boot, and anything else that might be of interest and a pic of the side of the car (both sides if possible). If you don't have the time or CBF'd no probs i'm sure i'll see it in person anyway! Also do you have any idea of how legit the kms are? (service records etc), the interior looks fairly clean from the pics. Also when you got your car tuned did you specifically go for power or drivablitiy / safetune? Just curious what car do you think you'll be driving clients around in soon? Audi / BMW ? Personally you'd get my business if you took me around in a modded GTR :( !

No problems Nathan - send me your email address (either just post here or sms it to me) and I'll forward you more pics and info. Will post a few more pics here for everyone else to see too.

The tune was done while the previous owner had it, so I'm not sure, however looking at the dyno graph and the power output it looks like it was tuned quite conservatively. These turbos have HEAPS more power in them if the tune is a bit more aggressive and the boost is wound up a bit if that's what you want :(

I am the 2nd owner in Australia - the previous owner (first owner in AU) bought it stock with ~67000kms on it. Unfortunately there is no history/proof of the kms, but two different mechanics have checked over the car and feel that they are legitimate. There is full service history paperwork for the car since it's arrival here.

I'm thinking audi, but I'll see what I find! Maybe a Mazda 6 MPS if they go alright...

Sucks I can't just edit my original post and add more pics there.

Steering wheel as requested by a few people, and some more exterior shots. Sorry it looks a bit dirty on some of them. Will get some clean 'normal' shots ASAP.

The GTR is now up on carsales.

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/privat...id=11FA85DDF310

I'm showing it to two forum members this Saturday, so I don't expect it to stay for sale too much longer past this weekend. It really is a fantastic car that will impress!

Best 33 on the market today, best colour for a 33 as well, very rare. Car obviously has 350rwkw potential with that set up. I got 371 with similar.

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
