Window Smashed & Boost Gauge Stolen [innaloo Megaplex]

Recommended Posts

Hey boys & girls,

Went to see Avatar last night, which I must say is the movie of the year, by far and without a doubt. If you haven't seen it, don't do yourself the disservice of missing it in the cinemas. And if you can get decent seats (back<->middle of cinema) then I definitely recommend the 3D version. Saw both and the 3D one really grows on you about 15-20 mins into the movie. You see it in regular form and it's a little meh after that.

Anyway, come back to my baby @ 11:30pm when it finished and lo & behold, my driver's side window is no more, plus my defi gauge is gone:

Luckily they didn't get the boost controller (drilled into the leg well), and I don't leave anything of value in the car [couldn't even get my cd player lolz]. They hit about 5-10 cars apparently, couple of Subarus, saw a new Golf had been broken into, my 33 and a guy's 34, when I called the police they said at least 5 others had been reported so yeah big downer on that one. ;)

Annnnyway! So I'm in the market for a driver's side window and a boost gauge to replace the stolen one, preferably of the same type since I still have the defi control unit. Ebay seems best for the gauge unless anyone knows a better source, but as for the window, could I get a couple of suggestions. Osbourne park is closest to me, however I'm willing to drive wherever I need to for a good deal and quality workmanship. Latest thread on the issue seemed to be here, but dunno if there are better suggestions that might've been missed out. Oh and yes I realize it'll be January before I get it replaced, but I'd like to start budgeting for it etc, so I'd appreciate all suggestions [first hand experience preferred]

Oh and to the poor guy with the white 34, your car is smexy and I hope it worked out for you last night [they took his turbotimer or something and it messed up his ignition]. Don't let it get you down, christmas is to be enjoyed with friends/family so just press forth and enjoy :P Merry christmas all!

Window will be easy, hit up Parts For Sale or local wreckers.

Tinting it will cost about $30 or just buy some tint yourself, and it should take maybe half an hour to get all the broken glass out, get the old tabs off and drop the new window in.

eBay generally has better prices on shit like gauges...but hit up SlidingPerformance, JustJap, Nengun, etc.

Well just to update, I called various wreckers and ended up going to Raj at Jap Parts Plus, $220 for the window & fixtures + $80 for labour (labour was well spent, no way I could've done it myself) and I managed to pick up two [sorta] matching nissan wheel caps (we produced with spartan air thing) for $15 each in decent condition, so I'm pretty happy!

Anybody could have done the windows man...its such an easy thing to do and takes no more than 10 mins from start to finish, no shit.

Ouch dude :(

Not too ouch for me, not sure if the actual pricing for the window was good... but I helped with the process and yeah perhaps I could've done it but it would've taken me several hours (I'm estimating 4-5) because I am completely unfamiliar with the mechanics behind it and I would've been super gentle. The $80 for labour doesn't sting too bad, and it fixed my squeaky hinge or whatever. Anyhoo, thanks for the recommendations, at least now I could do it myself with confidence if the need ever again rises. :/

Heya....glad you've got your car sorted out....mine was the GTR...thanks for coming by to see if I needed a hand. Got the car towed home and have since got it started. Now in search for passenger window and power FC commander.

Errggggghh.....and i was already in a crap mood from watching the movie and my ass going to sleep then to come out to see my car broken into and not getting home till 1:30am....bLERggHH

    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
