Don't go there! :D I been doing the searches since 3pm this avo "not happy JAN!!"

I'd like your opinions on the following EBC's.. these are what I have narrowed my options down to for the GTR.

1. HKS EVC IV

2. Profec B Spec II "still trying to work out this difference between B Spec & B Spec II"

3. Profec A "Older but apparantley more features than the B Spec II"

a) I HAVE established that...

- dual solenoids are better than singles.

- all the units are fuzzy logic

- as informed by ben @ racepace the HKS EVC is the best he's seen?

B) I HAVE NOT established...

- whether fuzzy logic is good or not?? at this stage reports are 50/50 each way.

- is it safe buying a used EBC unit, considering the conditions of solenoids?

- if soleniods need replacing can I buy them seperatly for any of the avove EBC's?

thanks

What do you want to do with it? Run a constant boost? How much boost? do you want dual stage (normal and a higher mode via switch)? Do you want pretty graphs and digital displays? how much do you want to spend?

Answers those and ill recommend one :D

I use the EVC 3 controller...works well enough. It's hidden in between my seat and the center console, so i barely even look at it. It was second hand, so something did go wrong with it initially.

It's really not worth it if constant boost is the only thing u want from it. It really only contributes to the "wank factor" of my car when i think about it. It can maintain constant boost pressure better yes, but only marginally (I read that in a performance textbook). And I agree that I wasted my money on something a bleed valve could've done. I miss that missile switch :D Boost comes on the same way it did during my bleed valve days.

My car even makes better power using a bleed valve for some reason. The thing gives me boost cut now for some reason. I'm seriously considering a change back to a bleed valve.

I have a blitz dual SBC in my GTR and i am extremely happy with it, i know its not in your list, but i would highly reccomend it, has everything you'd need.. 5 boost settings, warning, peaks etc and timed boost (i think) so if you want more boost down the straight, set it to number 5 (from 4 - for example) and it will automatically go back to setting 4 after x seconds.

Thanks for the reply guys...

At the moment the Power FC is getting fitted & tuned. I have a turbosmart bleed valve runnin around 1bar, with the stock GTR turbos. I'm not looking at more than 1bar for the turbos at this stage until I upgrade. I guess all I'd like is constant boost, no fancy pictures/graph, & most important reliable boost with "no" spiking. Money isn't an issue as I guess when I take away some of the wank factor most them are about the same figure. Nengun have the Greddy Profec B Spec 2 for around $450 delivered. I really haven't heard any bad things about the profec Bspec apart from Ben at racepace who swore by the HKS 3 & 4 saying they were the only controllers not to spike on the gtr's??

Dude - I have an EVC4 (digital screen version) and it holds boost very very well. It also works with externally gated turbos as well as internally gated. And it works with single, twin, quad turbo, whatever.... Has a 2 stage function as well. I managed to install and tune it myself with no problems in 2 hours flat. And im not that knowledgeable with that kind of stuff, i just 'had a go'. Had my mechanic check my work and he was happy with it and mentioned he had put a few of them on GT-R's also. Im very happy with it. If you decide to get one, Im only too happy to help you set it up...

Hi meshmesh, since you are running a Power FC then I would consider the Power FC Boost Controller Kit, same (good) solenoid as the AVCR, use the Commander to control and monitor the boost.

I considered that at first, however heard bd reports re: single soleniods & twin turbos.. I think I have narrowed it down to the EVC 4.

PS: What's your thought about cam gear settings aof +4 & -6 degrees on stock GTR turbos running 1bar?

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
