Just a thought.

I drive down Leach Highway quite a bit and between Orrong Rd and Abernethy Rd, you have a stretch of dual carriageway with an 80 km/hr limit.

In the central reservation are trees and to the left are power poles, neither are barriered off in anyway, and both items of 'furtiture' are not very far from the road.

Just seems like the road needs barriers. In the UK these types of highways tend to have those deformable crash barriers to the left and right.

There is a bunch of RIP flowers visible in the central reservation.

I almost got sideswipped by some Lancer driver today who indicated and manouvered at the same time whilst not using his mirrors. Got me thinking.

It would be nice if they painted some lines onto the reworked section of Tonkin Hwy southbound from the airport...

Nothing like doing 110km/h at night with no street lamps, no lane markings & some taxi driver is tailgating you + blinding you with high beams despite the fact you're doing 10k's faster then you should be.

In fact f**k the lane markings, just ban taxi drivers :P

Tony de Wonderful- Those barriers are called armco and are not exactly safe, watch the Fifth gear episode where they demonstrate how cars can flip over them instead of the barriers absorbing energy like they should..

That is true depending upon the size and height of the vehicle and the 'angle of attack'.

Still I think they are better than running into power poles.

The Government is supposedly 'all about saving lives', with their hoon laws and speed cameras yet they have roads which are not optimized for safety.

Should see what they do to motorcycle riders... :P

Apparantly if you lose it on your bike and slide under one it's not pretty.

Multanovas are OK. If you drive a road often enough you learn where they place the multanovas. You should be familar with a road before you start speeding on it anyway. In relation to hoon laws I think Rob Johnsons days as Police Minister are numbered, he has been shut down by the premier in parliment a few times. The laws could be scaled back but don't expect it to make the papers...

Also resurfacing the tarmac where you turn left from leach hwy onto albany hwy is another request. Why the hell is it so bumpy? I have standard suspension and it makes my whole car shake...

Lol probably shouldn't speed at all, ive heard its illegal all the time.

As if the government cares about road safety, if they did then they would take a leaf out of Englands book, they are the only country i have ever been that actually has it right and saves lives.

Then again, we could be worse. I just got back from South Africa and it is absolutely terrible there. Over 1050 deaths on the road between Dec 1 and Dec 25 alone. That ridiculous! There roads are shit, they have no traffic control, and everybody either drives these complete wrecks that aren't even worth the money it would cost to crush them, or they drive incredibly expensive fast cars and end up killing them selves. So we aren't that bad in comparison

Don't usually speed..

If I do it's accidental maybe 5-6km/h's over. Haven't been booked in years.

Motorcycle riders have it much worse then we do, oily patch on road is all it takes to tip them over at normal speeds.

If WA Police and Mainroads had their heads screwed on correctly they would focus on traffic flow and stop putting rediculous 4 lane roundabouts in place of traffic lights. I agree with the UK Police thing though, they have the ability to make you feel like an idiot through a stern warning. No fine required.

Don't get me started on Africa. They're hosting the 2010 world cup yet 2 weeks into 2010 they've already had a football team slayed down with machine gun fire (Togo at African Nationals Cup). Socceroos must be nervous as hell!! FIFA could not of made a worse choice compared to Germany 2006.

Lol you should see what its like there. The World Cup is gonna be an absolute fail. There were over 1000 murders, rapes and armed robberies between the 25th of Dec and 1st of Jan. What you think is gonna happen in the month of the World Cup with so many tourists and all the cops at the stadium and no one to stop any other crime

Does anyone remember the lane deviation nonsense on the Kwinana Freeway while the barrier works were happening...well they are doing the same nonsense from Hutton to Karrinyup...I would be avoiding the Freeway North when it starts, between 4:30-5:30pm.

hrm

just regarding traffic flow.. how come WA doesn't have those transit lanes the eastern states do?

everytime i goto brisbane i always see the T2 lane and it makes travelling so much easier cause only ppl with 2+ ppl in a car/taxi/bus can go in that lane...

also safety wise cops should really target older cars as they can be deadly when driving around...

sorry yeh i meant unmaintained POS cars ;) classic cars that are immaculate are DEFINATELY an exception. i just mean old rusted POS cars hehe :)

Likewise there are plenty of low rider utes with immaculate 40" spinners and stock brakes...not only are they unsafe, theyre also driven by complete idiots.

Looking like a piece of shit doesnt generally mean it is...there are plenty of apparently old cars with shit pain jobs and light surface rust, but are maintained perfectly and don't miss a beat.

Yeh and i dunno about you guys, but i would much rather pay $5 at a toll gate every time i go on the freeway than get targeted by cops for their revenue raising

But they people who watches & believes sh*t like TT/ACA don't like it that way...

They are probably also the morons that sit on the right lane while doing 10 - 20 under, but never get picked on by the cops so they think they are the world's safest drivers.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
