JimX
When I first saw them I thought "meh", then it started to grow on me, but it's now regressed back into utter disgust. Here are my reasons. 1. First and foremost, it looks like an uglified 350Z. So it's like a copy of something else AND beaten with the ugly stick. Double whammy in my opinion. I don't know which came first, the 350Z or the V35, but either way Nissan should have changed one or the other (preferably the Skyline of course). Tail lights and headlights are especially terrible. The "round" tail lights look like an animated LED Christmas card. 2. Build quality has NOTHING to do with style. They could have made it look as pretty or ugly as they liked, but it would still have the same build quality. It was not pressed into this shape for reliability. So it gets no points for being a "better" car than any preceding Skylines. It would have been better regardless of its shape. 3. Same goes for power and driveablity, handling, etc. Basically it can be as good as it can get, but if it's ugly, forget it. The R32, R33, R34, all grabbed me as sexy beasts the first time I saw them and my opinions of them only went up from there. A car shouldn't have to "grow" on you. 4. The V engine just kills me. Look at the redline, it's 6500rpm. Sure it's got more power than the inline 6's it replaces, but revs are where you get power. Increase the capacity but lower the redline and you have less potential for mods. **This doesn't mean that I think the RB engines are necessarily superior!** All I'm saying is that if they had stuck with the inline formula it would have been a better engine. It definitely would have been easier and cheaper to work on and modify, and that's one primary concern of most Skyline enthusiasts. T0nyGTSt
I'm not a big fan of V6 motors - I think V8's and inline sixes are the way things out to be in an ideal world (throw v10's and v12's also if you exotics). We have yet to see how the twin turbo six performs but so far it looks like the current motors are a little 'pedestrian' compared to the RB series. I like to think of it this way. Mercedes went to V6 and no one cared. Who really cares about how Mercs are powered. They're generally not enthusiasts. How would BMW lovers feel if the M3 went to a V6? Or that the Porsche 911 goes to a V6? The Skyline is at least as iconic as the M3 if not the 911 and the inline six was a part of that. I'm sure if I'd feel as bad if they decided to go all N/A V8. The Z series is V6. The S series is inline four. The R series is what? v6? As a whole I don't mind the shape of the z33/v35. I do mind that it's shared with the Maxima and I do mind that they seem to think they are BMW and can have a 'family' resemblence. I do mind the 'minor' details. The tail-lights are gay - why don't they make the LED's run around in circles as well to complete the gay effect? Why do they use the same wrapover lights treatment as Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi et.al. It reminds me of the current Magna! T. Rezz
Two flame posts from JimX and TOnyGTSt... All I can say guys is: wait till you drive one! I honestly believe Nissan have taken the Skyline successfully into the 21st century. Styling aside (hey, it was never going apeal to everyone... R33 remember!) I think the car as an overall package is right on the money. JimX
All I can say guys is: wait till you drive one! I honestly believe Nissan have taken the Skyline successfully into the 21st century. Styling aside (hey, it was never going apeal to everyone... R33 remember!) I think the car as an overall package is right on the money. I have no doubt that the car itself is a very nice and powerful ride and I'm sure it appeals to a wide audience. It's just the styling and the V engine really that I don't like about it for the reasons mentioned. The main reason I chose the Skyline over the Silvia was the styling. Although it was close. If the Silvia had an RB engine it would be even closer I think velour and round tail lights would have still won though. On the plus side, the GTR version (if it really is the same as the photos I've seen in the past) looks to be a lot nicer. Proper tail lights and a body kit and front and rear bars which give it a much more distinguished look to the 350Z. But... there's still that V engine. *sigh* Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/30627-what-do-you-think-of-the-v35-skyline-coupe/page/3/#findComment-622946 Share on other sites
Rezz
The VQ35DE sounds quite exotic and pulls sooooo smoothly, it is really refined. I know a V engine configuration isn't a match for a sorted straight 6, but keep in mind the weight distribution side of it. Excellent weight distribution coupled with a refined, high powered NA V6 and you've got a good package. Looks aside! Demon Dave
Unfortunately, I'm guessing that very few people on here (myself included) have yet to drive a V35 coupe (or even see one in the flesh) so naturally everyone basis their opinions on looks (and what they've read) alone... Some people like the V35's. Some don't. It's all cool Rezz, I wouldn't let other people's opinions about the V35 influence your decision to get one. Rezz
Rezz, I wouldn't let other people's opinions about the V35 influence your decision to get one. I'll be getting one regardless of what SAU naysayers...well... say!!!! Btw, my wife loves the V35... very European "cool" style she says, but she also likes the hard-mofo R32 GT-R. Tough decision, but I'm gonna go with the V35. T0nyGTSt
I think it's sorta like this. I think the V35 is a nice car in the same way that the Z33 is a nice car. But both these cars are perhaps a tad 'diluted' in concept and design compared to their predeccessors. That's ok. I think the intended target audience for the Z33/V35 has aged a bit. Styling is personal I suppose and I think everyone complains about common styling themes but in what is supposed to be a flagship design... "me too" styling doesn't cut it. At $70,000 for a Z33 and I would imagine something like $100,000+ for a V35... what do people really want? A Series 2 R34 GT-R? A Series 3 R33 GT-R? Even an RX8? You might say that we're all pretty young here with slightly more hard edged aspirations than the z33/v35. T. Demon Dave
Cool. Bout time we had some more V35 owners on here...hey wait a minute, you'll probably be THE FIRST V35 owner on here! Zagan
I personnaly don't like the v35 all that much, the body could have been done much much better, it would have been better if the design was kept to the same designs as before but changed. If you look at all the skylines 31 32 33 34 they all have the same shape but all look different but you know that all of them are skylines, nothing else. With the v35 you first think of it's a 350z and then as it goes by you see the skyline word on the back and by then who could really care what it was. I know that you can get some bodykits for the v35 but it'd need a complete change in style to get some skyline style back into it. It's problem was/is the same as what subaru got with the My98/99/00 to 01/02/03 headlights pretty much everyone hated them and the new WRX cars don't sell all that great to let you know because of this. Also from what I've read the v35 has a weak engine nothing compared to the RB engines and on top of this there's no turbo this will be a major buyer killing point. From what I've heard there's going to be no v35 GTR and I don't think any skylines will have a turbo in them any more. Basicly the v35 is a dead car it won't sell all that well, and will kill the skyline brand completely the only thing to keep it going will be the old cars. Skylines to me are meant to be race cars for the street not some clapped out ripped off design with a crap enigne just to top the crap off. So no it doesn't thrill me that the v35 is here as is.
