Just after a little bit of clarification

Ok so i have a R32 gtst and from what i understand it has a R200 with a 5 bolt halfshaft

Now i know there are many different types of the R200

however my question is:

Can i use any R200 diff with my half shafts? I.e. can i buy any R200 diff which is for a S14/s13/240sx/300zx etc and will it fit my half shafts (5 bolts) with my spline that i have on those half shafts?

Or does each R200 made for each different type of car (32/s14 etc) have a unique splines cut for each one?

I'm gonna say yes and no.

I'll try and explain this as simple as I can.

I had a problem with the halfshafts in my diff, the bolts fell out and they were damaged in the accident (previous owners fault).

I had to go to the task at finding some more 5 bolt half shafts.

Easy I thought, I bought R33 ones and they didn't fit into my diff.

I tried a mates pair of S13 ones and they didn't fit.

I looked at other R32 half shafts and they looked exactly the same as S13/R33 ones too.

The previous owner has put some sort of R200 diff centre into my diff that fits a wierd type of 5 bolt half shafts.

Read my thread (which I got no feedback from), it has pictures of regular half shafts and my 'rare' type :S

Show us what your half shafts look like.

From what i have investigated, however DO NOT TAKE THIS AS GOSPEL - I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU ATTEMPT THE FOLLOWING AND IT DOES NOT WORK

R32 VLSD as standard is an R200 diff. These all use 2 stub axles (the splined shafts that connect directly to the diff center) which have a spline count of 29, and are different lengths side to side to accommodate the offset of the crown wheel in the diff center (to effectively make both left and right distances from end of "drive shaft" to hub the same length). S13's SR20DET and R33 with VLSD models have the same spline count/config, however I am unsure of length etc. The R33 apparently has larger crown wheel bolts which makes install a R33 R200 center difficult but it can be done with simple sleeving to get a R32 crown wheel on a R33 diff, or drilling and tapping for the reverse application.

S14's however are different as they utilize a 3*2 (6 bolt) stub axle arrangement at 120 degree of separation between corresponding bolts. They still use a 29 spline count and same configuration as the R32/R33/S13 tho apparently.

This effectively means that you CAN put your R32 stub axles in a diff made for an S14/S13/R33 etc so long as it is a diff for a R200. However there may be some slight modification on the crown wheel side of things. However, one thing i am unsure of is whether if you buy an R200 diff, such as a Nismo item, what length the shafts are required to be. Reading one of Bubba's posts, apparently, with this nismo item, the stub axles are the same length side to side and are genuine nissan items, indicating that possibly nismo do away with the different length stub axles and use either 2 of the longer shafts, or two of the shorter shafts. Which one I am unsure of...

If anyone can shed some more light on this, that would be great.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
