hey guys,

going to bellingen for a few days and am thinking of getting my first ink... just wondering if anyone knows of a good one in coffs harbour area??

nothing fancy, no big sleeves or lots of details, just a few meaningful words in a nice calligraphic font.

cheers

Linton

Being your first, I would suggest going somewhere reputable, preferably by referral.

One of my pieces is a single word in the type of font you are describing, and I was pretty particular in who I got to do it.

I'll check with a couple of friends and see if they know of any decent artists in or around Coffs.

Gotcha

Have you decided on the actual font? Best to take the file with you on a usb stick

ive narrowed it down to 10 fonts... have sent it to the boss for her to narrow it down and then ill make a final decision... it wont be an uber fancy font and its easily accessible.

im a pretty ticklish kinda fella... is getting it done down my side going to hurt like hell or just be a wierd sensation?? i can handle hurt like hell more than a weird sensation, or should i liquor up before hand?? haha.

also... while your there.. as im a newbie... how much roughly would i be looking at?? one colour... bout 10 lines..

Okay, firstly, do not stroll in there pissed, as a) they will probably refuse to work on you and b) the booze thins your blood which can affect the quality of the finished product.

I would describe the sensation as an annoyance rather than pain, kinda like someone scratching your sunburn.

Hard to say what the piece you want is going to cost at it comes down to the artist, how long it takes them, the intricacy of the font, font size etc.

You are game having your first one done down the side of your ribs

i think it came out awesome.

thanks for your help fellas..

the worst part was the ribs... and the alcohol wipe afterwards.

Geebus!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tat looks good Linton! haha yeah 3 hours in total would be a killer for the tatoist doing it!

So, when you getting the next one?

thanks mate.

4 hrs in total from walking in to walking out... and because the font is not cursive... each letter had to be done individually.

i just grit my teeth and kept thinking "its only pain.. it hurts, but it wont kill me"

ahhh next one... well... i said this would be my only one... but ive already got many ideas..

i would love to get a portrait of my 2 dogs done somewhere.. i thought about one on each trap... but ill have to build my traps up much more for that.

ever since I got my first I have had soooo many ideas for my next one, its a weird addiction!!!

Looks good Leighton! Sorry, my eyes may be playing tricks on me..what does it say?

i'm getting one tomorrow night possibly by my wifes cousin.

i'm getting:

bathurst_1996.jpg

except i'm changing "1996" to "1987" (being the year i was born) - our family has gone on a tattoo spree this week, my mother in law and brother in law both got one, and they both got something that meant something to them (brother in law got the southern cross around the NZ silver fern because his mother is a kiwi, and my mother in law got a heart with wings and "Dad" on a scroll across the heart in memory of her dad)

reason i'm getting it is because that's who i am. Before imports, before drifting, before everything..the race was a part of me (being born in bathurst and all)

so yeah, i'm thinking of getting it on my calf/side of my leg area.

in the common tongue it reads:

Have you ever wondered what it is you are here to do? How your body is built and how your mind is wired?

What can you do that no other can? Imagine going through life never knowing, letting others decide your fate.

Imagine having the gift of life and not knowing what to do with it, for that is a tragedy much worse than death.

I do not fear death, for all great stories must come to an end, what I fear is life without the ability to live. When your day comes and you are faced with the creator, will you thank him… or will you ask “why was I here?”

This time is given to you, what will you do with it?

a few years ago i got really bad depression.. manic depression they call it.. imagine sitting inside your head, watching yourself have arguments with yourself, but from a 3rd person.. like watching your parents have a really bad argument.. you cant stop it, and you want to yell and scream..

this is like my mantra... i think it to myself to get me through.. to live everyday like its your last.. and be thankful for all that you have..

i got it in ink, because thoughts, especially in my head, get shot down, pushed to the back, or clouded by other less important thoughts..

this is a way of materialising that thought.. it can never be taken away from me or clouded over. it is not just inside my head anymore, it is a part of me.

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
    • Shock tower brace is in +5Kw....LOL
