As the topic title suggests, I was wondering if this is legal or not? I've seen a few GTR's with the number plate mounted to the side leaving the intercooler un-obstructed which looks quite tough imo.

I know some evo's come with a number plate holder side mounted from factory but I figured it's illegal unless the car came like that?

You are allowed to have it on the drivers side, as long as it can be seen from 45 degree @ a certain distance (i forget exactly, but drivers side will of course be fine)... or in the factory spot.

Nowhere else is allowed.

There is a mention in the Supp Regs of the law in question relating to it about factory/OEM mounting brackets, if that is all you have then that's all you can use.

EVO's and other cars that come factory like that are OK.

I've actually taken a defect to court over that law (rear mounting on a HR31 is quite inset so you cannot see the plate from 45 degree's)... and of course won due to the Supp Reg's stating that if it's factory - it's A-OK.

if mounting is an issue i have done an in depth post on making security brackets offset to the front bar , on the side looks really ordinary espescially since you have to drill through your front bar or as one knobhead suggested to use double sided tape , massive damage afterwards when removed . fckn lol

Either side is illegal. Must be seen at a 45deg angle at a distance of 20 meters. If it's on the drivers side you won't e able to see it from the passenger side at 20 meters. Just leave it in the middle because it's not worth the 3 points and fine that comes with it.

Hmmm, yeah it seems like it's not worth the hassle. Don't want something that could attract a fine even if it's legal.

Gotta love being guilty until proven innocent... Hooray for Victoria

Apparently you don't have to even have a number plate on the front - only on the rear. Of course if you do have one on the front, you must follow the regulations.

Whilst I was working at Ford, all the non-registered vehicles that had to be driven to the various departments only had one trade plate - which had to be on the rear.

Then again, a cop will love any reason to pull over a skyline or any import.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
