Earlier today, the fat PS3's crashed "millennium bug" style.

The known issues are:

- Clock/Date reset to 1/1/2000

- No access to PSN

- Games with trophy support may/will not work

- Games purchased through PSN may/will not work

- Dynamic and some other themes are listed as "corrupted data"

The slim PS3's did not get affected; only the fat PS3's. Sony have yet to come up with a fix for the problem but have addressed it. It was rumoured that someone hacked PSN and introduced a trojan but that has since been denied by Sony.

Unfortunately, no COD for a while

I'm thinking f**k, which mongrel was f**king about with my ps3. Format the system and restore all defulat settings, still no luck. Googled the error code at the end and found out it was a gobal problem.. pheww

Official announcement from Sony

Some consumers are experiencing a network connection failure when signing into PSN and may receive the error code 8001050F.

We are aware of this issue and it's currently under investigation however at this time there is no estimated time to fix. Please refrain from calling your local PlayStation call centre and keep watching this space for further updates...

PlayStation Network Status Update

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

We’re aware that many of you are having difficulty connecting to the PlayStation Network this evening. Those of you with “slim” PS3s (the 120/250 GB models) appear to be unaffected.

Know that we have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service even as you read this. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and genuinely appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this.

Well the gist is that the ARM SYSCON CPU that is used to power up the front panel of the ps3, that is responsible for doing things like sleep mode, eject, RTC etc. Is an old batch that sony picked up from the shelf like other manufacturers that has that calendar year bug regarding feburary 29th on certain periods. Causing the ps3 system clock and the real time clock to desync, messing up security measures like Digital Rights management software and sometimes games that relies on clocks for whatever reason. As well as signing up to the playstation network... This CPU is always on even when your PS3 isn't even plugged in.

This problem is also happening with various of test Ps3 models, particulary the ones that has the emotion engine cpu/gpu for ps2 dev.

This is the one of the same type of CPUs that is powering up mobile devices like zune and blackberries, they have been affected with this bug, so they done some software patches. A syscon update can also fix this problem

The Slims ps3s aren't affected because they use a newer up to date revision on the syscon cpu that fixes this bug.

A quick way to fix this is to remove the RTC battery for at least 5-10 min and plug it back in, you will see the date and time reset, and voila...

Yep, somewhat of a pandemic, lol, i hope that trophy data isn't lost for good, or im sure heads will roll...

Here is the official word from Sony atm

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/lat...network-status/

and both the European and US sony twitter accounts

So we're being told to not even turn on the PS3 until the problems fixed...

damn and I was right in the middle of Uncharted 2...

Well chances are you wont be able to play it anyway due to the trophy sync error, i can't play any of my games due to this, but demos work fine

Well chances are you wont be able to play it anyway due to the trophy sync error, i can't play any of my games due to this, but demos work fine

So i'm guessing the older games will work?

so no Dante's inferno, bioshock 2 or uncharted 2 for a few days...

F**K Pull your head in Sony!

all is well now, although if you were unlucky enough to try and play any games while the ps3 shit itself, pretty much the whole of the 1-3-2010 then you most likely lost a whole heap of trophy data *sucks*

    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
