i have an r32 gtst with a vg30 turbo, full exhaust, bigger cooler, filter, valve running 12lbs. it has a really prominent stutter up in the revs. once it hits 5000 it makes popping sound out the exhaust and power drops off, it feels like im constantly hitting speed cut (not that we know what this feels like lol) i have changed the plugs (iridium, gapped to .8), cleaned afm. it seems to happen more when i suprise the engine with boost, if im gentle and rev it slow it's ok. how can i check the coils? could it be the computer stopping the fun with boost cut?? thanks guys

use feeler guages to gap your spark plugs,

fuel cut is when your injectors get shut off... it feels like

similar to what your get with you coilpacks,

just the fuel cut does is one big loss of power, then it goes again.. with the coil pakcs or spark plugs it miss fires and the sprak arks out and misses the coil pack spring or the plug.

correct me if im wrong :S

:D

could also be a boost leak somewhere, check all vacum hoses and things. If there is significant air escaping, if will sense unequal ratio in the intake, and eventually if too much cut-out as a protection measure (like you're hitting a rev limiter or similar). I've had this happen before.

sounds like coils because when its under load.. 5000rpm ? it missfires

maby also boost leak ?

to clean the coil packs, you pull them out and take the rubber boot off, get very fine sand paper and rub the spring and clean it intill its shiny and clear of any dirty.

then put rubber boot back on and put duck tape around it.. (should already have some on it) to stop the spark arking out.

you need a tool to measure the coils not sure what its called but they should read around 0.7

thanks predator, i didnt even think about a boost leak, come to think of it there does seem to be more of a sucking noise since i put the new turbo on. maybe i didnt tie up a clip tight enough or something. if it is coil where can i pick up second hand ones? there seems to be alot of r33 coils on here but yet to see a 32.

justjap.. you can get some coils from.

louder sucking noise ? (boost leak) - what type of bov you got ?

standard bov. but problem fixed, timing was set way too low for some reason, i thing my crank angle sensor was loose so it wound itself down. or something like that. reset it to 20 deg, with some octane boost, now its back to normal. its awesome i can now feel the new turbo properly, it just rips to the red. thanks for the info every1

    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
    • Yes, well. Mine are less than half that. ARBs are not set to "dumb" either.
    • I would hope. But, we all know even the best companies have an issue sporadically.
    • LOL well, lucky mine doesn't have some R shit on it. Around town, it handles so much better than the R33, R33 in the wet is pretty dangerous to the untrained hoon, especially with 13kg/mm front springs.
