Hey guys. My car got hit kinda bad from the hail a few weeks ago (Only cosmetic damage mainly though). I'm getting my car inspected next week. But the thing is I want to keep my speakers and stereo and I don't have anything to replace them with. Will it somehow void my claim or something like that?

I mean I can take out the speakers (they aren't visible unless you take the interior trim apart) but will they check that everything is there and works?

As for CD player; is something required to be there whether stock or aftermarket because I would like to take that out too before the car is taken away from me.

Thanks guys.

Probably not. I'm with Just Car and they didn't check any of that, basically just wrote it off and took the keys. I really don't think they're that bothered as the car goes to auction anyway. I left all that gear in because I just COULD NOT BE BOLLOCKSED tearing the interior apart and putting it all back together AGAIN. Done it once. Hated it. I'd rather spend some bucks on some newer gear. Although the speakers were nice kevlar cones. I'll miss them :).

Mate, honestly, if you want to do it, buy the cheapest paper shit you can possibly get (from like supercheap or dick smith or jaycar or something) and just replace them. If you're going to the trouble of ripping the interior apart, a few extra bucks and a few extra minutes will ensure you won't get hassled by the assessor (although mine was a top bloke).

Also, I have a stock head unit if you're interested PM me :(

(EDIT: Spelling)

Thanks for the reply diamondio :(

Sorry my car list not updated :) Currently driving one of those new celicas.

Might change my alpine speakers and cd player with my dad's stock corolla one and then swap it over again once i get the new car.

Luckily with the celica, well for me, the interior bits are pretty easy to take apart.

who are you insured with and whats the car worth?

my dads car is insured for 9k and is being fixed with sgio

mine insured for 30k and being fixed with just car

paintless dent removal seems to be pretty effective and quite cheap

when I took mine in i changed the rims incase they took if off me but i couldn't be bothered stripping everything. If you do plan to strip it just keep in mind you might be putting it all back in the next day.

I'm insured with AAMI insurance and I'm insured for an agreed 10k. Basically called up and they going to tow it away next week.

Right now I can count up to about 150 dents. Dents are on the bonnet, roof, hatch, pilars and doors. Front window has a huge crack in there at the moment and there is no rear windscreen. A few globes were blown as well ( I know it's not a big deal but hopefully they see it as some sort of damage haha).

Just tell them when they write the car off.

If the audio gear was part of the agreed value then they'll subtract it from what they pay you out. If it wasnt, just take it out, they won't care.

I know a few people who've been asked if they want to remove the stuff before the car is written off.

Basically if u have a higher av than the market value of the car it will be taken with the car as this is why the car was valued higher.

If its a third party policy which has your wheels/audio excluded then you can take them out

If you remove the mods and they were listed on the policy claim could be denied on those grounds, but if you never advised the insurance company then they had no idea they were fitted.

Just had a quick read of my policy. I don't think any of the audio gear was in my policy. Assuming it was insured with all stock.

Yeah I got comprehensive insurance with AAMI. Car was insured as a completely stock car and I have since removed my mods.

Called them up yesterday and basically getting the car towed away. Once it's been assessed, I wont get a chance to remove anything, so it's best if I do so beforehand.

Thing is, I don't think they'll know if my car has speakers or not (assuming that everything looks standard) or will they?

For the record guys, aftermarket car audio is NOT covered in car insurance. It can be covered under home + contents insurance, but if your car gets stolen, burnt out, totalled, hail damaged, and thus written off, most policies dont account car audio as extra value of the car. I know JustCar do, which also add to the agreed value of the car along with flash paint jobs, specific modifications, bodyklits, etc, but most polices won't cover it.

Remove all your gear and say the car had nothing when you got it. All stock, just like the policy says. If anything they'll deduct a couple of hundred bucks off your pay out, if that.

Thanks for the reply man. Great info you got there :) Yeah I have taken out all my audio stuff now :(

... good; now just put in some cheap sh/t > then your conscience won't chase you

Dont even bother doing that, not worth it. When my mates car was written off he had a sound system worth about 3 times as much as the car, we just ripped it out and left the car with nothing. Insurance didn't care at all, they just auction it off to one of their wrecking companies and it gets scrapped.

i havent read the thread aside from the first post, so excuse me if someone's said it.. but just rip all your shit out of the car

unless the stereo gear is specifically listed on your policy you have no obligation to produce a car with a stereo to them, and even if it was listed i'd still remove it haha

i tried to get my front bar they said no. coz it was covered on my policy they said they own it now so i couldnt even buy it back separately unless i brought back the whole wreck.

If you were the owner you should get the wreck back alot cheaper than what they'd sell it to a wrecker for.

Nathan (TAKUSHI) got his RB25 Ceffy wreck back from (?)JustCar for $600.

Probably works out better off to buy the wreck back and part it out, otherwise there are only a handfull of wreckers that will by a Skyline, wait a few weeks then ring around to track it down.

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
