fuel tank is about 65L, best to use premium fuel, but not a must. as for fuel economy, as with every car it really depends on how you drive. if you like flooring it everywhere then you will get noticably worse economy than someone who drives like a granny

yeah, hence not being fussed about replacing the O2 sensor. I just have that feeling that I should be getting a bit better efficiency from a 2.5 litre 6... But maybe im just getting more and more upset at the increasing cost ($) to do said 100km- aka fuel prices

:P

i think that if your o2 sensor was bad you'd be getting worse than 12L/100kms of "brisk city driving"

it really comes down to how you are driving. if you are flooring it a fair bit then you will get poor fuel economy, even in something like a skyline with a relatively small engine. they aren't exactly tuned to be economical either. they are tuned to be a bit sportier, so that means that even driving like a granny you would use more fuel than some other 2.5L engines out there.

i was getting much worse economy than you in my r33 gts-t. i was up around 17L/100kms. on a long trip on the higway it was down around 10 or 11/100kms. new o2 sensor made no difference because it was down to my driving style. the o2 sensor has no effect on how rich the car runs when you floor it. the ecu ignores it once you get into higher load cells on the map. this can be as low as about 40% throttle depending on rpm, etc. the o2 sensor is only used in light throttle applications, so light acceleration and cruising along at a steady speed.

before you go out and buy a new o2 sensor you would be best off just testing your current one with a multimeter to see if it is working properly.

il whack in about $50 so half a tank aprox, will last me about 250 k's, but its all driving style. i try and change around 3k rpm but its not always the case haha, and i do alot of stop start driving aswell which dosent help.

after getting the new tuned ecu in and boost controller retuned I found that i was in the 20L/100km bracket for 'very spirited' driving. New O2 sensor goes in this week...

Laid waste to an EVO so it was all worth it :3some:

also girlfriend screaming real loud and grabbing the jesus bar and the roof under full acceleration. LMFAO

  • 1 month later...

Have put in the new NGK O2 sensor, sealed up the filler cap leak so now have an airtight seal on the petrol tank,

also put on a turbo-back exhaust and done a further tune and now down to 12.5L per 100km for brisk city driving.

Stoked.

Ill flush with injector cleaner and do a final tune and hopefully under 12L...

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
