Just wondering if you guys had any ideas regarding a weird problem I have with my skyline.

When the car is warm and I stop to idle...the revs rise to about 2000 rpm and then hold there and then drops down to 1100 rpm. When it is cold it smoothly idles at 7-800 rpm? Just when it is warm it is high.

I took it to a mechanic and he said it could be any number of things but he thought it could be the computer thinking it is an auto (I did a manual conversion), but somehow I am not sure about that.

Anyone else had a problem like this switching from auto to manual?

Help!

I used to get that same problem with my Ford Laser, did some tampering with the idle and when i lowered it it somehow fixed it, one of those things that doesn't make logical sense but works...

Ofcourse, that was a car that was manual out of the factory, so it could have been a completely different issue to what your experiencing, it sounds like your on the right track by assuming its a tuning issue due to the conversion.

I tried lowering the idle a ways back but it was already as far back as it would go from memory. I'll try again.

I don't think it is the tuning because the guy who installed the box made it so that the car thought it was in neutral all the time. If he did it in drive it would do it I would imagine. I'll just have to do some more tests and fiddling around.

cheers,

Dan

I found this - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Di...;hl=rising+revs. I might try this out, because it sounds more like the problem. I have A/C off most of the time and the A/C doesn't work neway.

Hey mate, i know the problem all too well next time you have the high rev, take the wire going into your Throttle postion switch out. Once you do this it confirms the s if the rev's drop, if so then you need a new throttle postion sensor. I forget how much they are but i can order them at nissan.

Many thanks,

I'll check it out. My cousin mention the tps as well. I'll give it a go. Where is it in the engine? (sorry for my ignorance), I will have a look around to see if I can find it.

if you stand at the front of your car you will see the throttle body has a small box attached to it (has a wire and a plug if its a series 1 or if its a series 1.5 it will have the S2 TPS but 1 of the plugs has no wires going into it and the S2 has 2 plugs both wired up). Shouldnt be able too miss it now

    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
