Hi guys, having a issue atm with a bosch 040 pump i installed today.

i've read the tutorial thread on installing it and its exactly the same.

problem is that first 5-10minutes of driving was beautiful. now when i give it, it just cuts out, if i rev it slowly and keep it longer it does not cut out.

any help guys?

the priming sound on idle does not sound right either, need to know whether its a faulty pump or not because the guy i bought it off assured me its in 100% working condition.

here is a video of the sound on idle.

yeah ive heard of that being done in older cars, 32,s13 etc

but other people with 33 GTST & 34 GTT, S14/15 dont do this and they dont have any problems.

i cant be bothered stuffing around anymore, im just gonna sell the pump and get a walbro.

its heaps noisey so it gets annoying as well

cheers for ur help crans

The stock stuff is absolutely not enough to cut it.

I have just been through this with a Walbro, which shit itself then replaced it with Bosch 040 running at 13.3-13.45 volts @ Idle. FAAARRKEN NOISY! but it does its job : )

Standard voltage was something like 11.0 volts @ idle.

You have to remember that these aftermarket pumps 'alleged' power rating (e.g. Walbro is claimed to be 255lph, 500hp pump) is only relevant when running at full volts/potential. So when it runs at below this, like mine was, I think from memory the rating for the walbro dropped to something like 190lph. Pathetic.

So regardless of what everyone else states, including some manufacturers/distributers etc, You must re-wire, as stated above.

On a sides note, I am certain this all has something to do with nissan having it wired like this as to reduce pump noise but this may only apply to GTR's.

Please, anyone, correct me if im wrong here.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?

LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
