Hi everyone,

I recently bought myself a clean r33 turbo which is my first turbo car. I have been reading through the forum and searching like mad and have learnt some really great stuff! there really is a great amount of info on here.

The problem is I cant find an answer to this question, it is probably really simple and hasnt deserved a thread until now :)

I am trying to get my head around these boost controllers. i know the 33's run 5 psi low boost and then up to 8 passing 4500rpm.

I would like to increase mine to the 10ish mark (to look after the frail stock turbo!)

what i am wondering is:

- will this shorten the life of the turbo dramatically?

- can i retain the hi/low boost function with a boost controller? without a tune (to begin with) can this be done? will I have to use an electronic and not a bleed valve? any info here would be great!

also how tolerant are the 33s when it come to mods and engine mods? i will be getting the car re-tuned eventually but i would like to use the mods as i buy them and not have to wait until i have collected them all and do it all at once. will the ecu be able to adjust and handle the basic mods (cooler, sligth boost increase, turbo back exhaust) without any fueling problems? dont want to risk the motor thats all!

thanks in advnace

covered to death

how hard did you look?

theres a factory free boost hack on the r33 GTST, look for it in the tutorial section

I have a manual dual stage boost controller that will give you adjustable HI and LOW boost at the flick of a switch, was running 8psi/12psi pretty well, Have electronic boost controller now so dont need it

yeah i did see that link. thanks though. i was keen to retain the factory hi/low setting and was wondering if a manual boost controller would remove that or if you put it up 3 psi for example if it would just become 8/11 instead of 5/8

was also keen to hear peoples opinions on turbo wear

thanks

define turbo wear ? you cant really put a number on it . yes it will have a shorter life based on the fact its working harder .

if you knew what you were doing you could use a manual boost controller to achive what you said in the above post but if you dont know how to do it i suggest you dont

I said I have a manual boost controller...... You could probably get it to retain factory Low boost at less then 4500rpm and HI boost above that if thats what you wanted by wiring the dual stage into the factory plug, getting the power and earth the right way around

Otherwise mine was hooked up to a switch in the car and it will Just be Low boost switch off, High boost switch on

If your interested PM me, I dont need my manual dual stage anymore.......

Its a dual stage turbosmart (Red)

You can plumb in some electronic boost controllers to retain stock 2 stage set up. I found this out more by mistake when I had my AVCR plumbed in. Stock first stage boost and second stage .85 bar.

I have been running high boost all the time for the last 3 or so years at .85 with stock inter cooler and no remap with no problems.

Some like it some dont

it appears i was lucky but on the whole the rb engine responds very well too stage on mods look below!!!

you can make a manual boost controller do both depending on where you put it .

put it between the t peice and the ic pipe to achieve 7/10 psi (for example)

or remove the restrictor in the line to/from the solenoid and put the manual boost controller in the line between the solenoid and the hose from turbo intake to afm . to achieve 4/10psi (for example)

    • Agreed, I've never seen a 260RS specific manual. As GTSBoy said it will mostly be stagea other than the engine loom https://www.hgeconsulting.com.au/stageaservicemanual.pdf
    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.
    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
