R33 Swap

Recommended Posts

Car I Want To Trade:

RB25DET R33 GTS25G 4 Door Sedan, 105,000 killometers, well looked after, VIC Rego till November 2010

Reason For Trade:

theres no problems with the car im just not interested in having such a highly modified car anymore, i am after a standard series 1 or 2 R33 gts25 or gts25t thats done resonable killometers, had no modifications & in good condition (not to fussed on colour). i will consider other imported cars but my main focus is swapping my skyline for another skyline, if something catches my eye i wont hesitate to check it out, as you probably noticed the car has Personalised Plates, pretty sure i can get these swapped over for normal VIC plates for a small fee, or ill just let them go with the car, not to fussed about that.

please feel free to contact me on the following addresses.

I can vouch for this guy his cars are in immaculate condition inside out you wont have any troubles i bought an R33 GTS25 off him and had no trouble with the car was in perfect condition (until i wrote it off) it passed RWC easily and a Mechanic check with flying colours he infact drove the car i was buying off him 3 hours just so i could get it checked by my mechanic which i was very thankful for. I would definitely recommend and back Azza as a seller his an extremely friendly guy who takes care of his cars. good luck with the sale buddy! hope she sells quick well worth the money.

thanks for the kind words justin, you were exactly the kind of person i wanted to sell it to, someone who takes pride in there cars not just an 18 year old know it all rev head, take care buddy ;)..

yes i've always liked MR2's

to start with im gonna need some details

how many kays?

what year?

any problems at all?

service history?

any modifications? including wheels, anything..

anything recently been replaced?

is it registed or roadworthy?

when was the last roadworthy?

where abouts are you from?

..ok

ill be straight up honest here today i was driving & noticed my car was sounding a little funny like it was missig a cylinder or something, checked my ignition lead, spark plugs, coil packs (its not an electrical fault), pulled apart all my piping & tested it for air leaks, nothing.. all the vaccum lines are working fine as well, did an oil and filter change today because it was due and it seems to be running okay now, it could possibly be a head gasket (i am NOT 100% sure on this, i just cant think what else it could be) which is not such a bad thing if you know how to fix it yourself, if not it will cost allot of money for a mechanic to do it.. i will be honest tho the car has been really really spot on until early this morning when i started having that problem..

other then that everything is as indicated at the top..

let me know if your still interested..

cheers.

Hi. I presume that you're asking me about my 2. :)

It's coming close to a 177000 km. It's a '91 SW20 N/A, nothing to be excited about. Just sent it for its first service since I got it a month ago and only getting it back on saturday. Had similar seemingly misfiring running problem like yours, but not sure about the source until i get it back from the mechanic. Felt a sway in the rear occasionally during cornering and I'm not sure if the rear sway bar is screwed or that's how the design of the car is due to the car's tendency to have "snap oversteer". But again, I'll only know when the service is done.

As for mods, the previous owner changed the rims to 17x9 ones ( i think, but 17" for sure), changed the thermostat kick in for the radiator from 180 to 140 degrees so that the side vent fans will kick in once the temp gauge reads 140 degrees.

To be honest with you, the car used to be a written off one and the previous owner got it back registered and VicRoads approved about 2 years ago. He claimed that it was only damage to the rear suspension rod near the left rear end and it happened in the hands of the owner before him, but i suspected more than that. But couldn't find out more or do anything since it ran very well, at least in this month i had it. But it's currently registered till july.

I'm located in the SE suburbs of Melbourne, so probably it's gonna be quite a problem for either of us to see both cars. So maybe we can work out something if you're really interested in it.

Looking forward.

I haven't taken any pictures of it just yet. Once I get it back, then I'll take some pictures for your view.

By the way, what's the power at the rear wheels like? I don't know about mine yet. Planning to get a dyno sheet done after the service. I won't expect too much cause everything's stock. But anyway, like you said, we'll discuss more after both cars are back from the mechanics.

alright mate, well both our cars are in the mechanic, i will get mine back Tuesday so maybe we should talk more when we know what the problems are & go from there.. In the meantime do you possibly have some photos of the car & engine?

I haven't had any dyno tests or anything since I've owned it but the previous owner told me that he had a dyno test done and it ran 290 kw at the rear wheels, i'd be questioning 300 kw now if I had it in it's prime & got it on the dyno.

How many kms did a tank last for you? The low fuel light came on at 400km for mine and when I filled it up at the pump, the meter read 44L+, which means I had about 10L left before. So i reckon about 450 - 500km for a full tank of 95 octane.

I've never driven the car anywhere but around town, it runs exactly the same as my old skyline & I once drove that from wodonga to Melbourne (300km), filled up when I got to Melbourne & it cost me $16 to top it up and the guage read just under 3/4 tank so it is very good on fuel, couldn't give you an exact indication but it's definitely good for any situation.

just got confirmation from my mechanic that there are NO problems with the piston rings or the head gasket, no indication that im loosing boost or have any other leaks.. the reason my car was missing is because one of the coil packs has been playing up, that coil pack has been replaced & im going to put platinum plugs in and see how it goes from there, worst case scenario i will have to replace all the coil packs, i get the car back tomorrow because i am currently at work till late tonight. i will post how it all goes when i pick it up in the morning. at least theres no really big problems.

i've had a few people emailing me about weather the engine is an RB25DE with a turbo added or it is an RB25DET, my engine plate says it is an RB25DE, this is because this model wasnt made with a turbo, to be honest i dont know if the engine is an RB25DE or DET because i dont know how to tell the difference, what i can tell you is i have in the past had the turbo removed and the car did not run well at all without the turbo, everything was naturally aspirated and if it was an RB25DE it should of ran fine because thats the way it was designed to run to start with (without a turbo), i then put the turbo back in myself and the car runs fantastic now, i also updated the turbo's oil & coolant turbo cooling lines to steel braided hoses & it doesnt look like there has been any modifications to the block whatsoever, thats why i am 100% sure its a rebuilt RB25DET, if anyone has any doubts tell me a way i can check? and i will certainly have a look..

this is my cars details..
