And I wish I'd seen this.

I was one of the unlucky ones, Skyline EPA'ed for exhaust noise.

They were outside Ringwood Mazda and pulling all the cars into the carpark. Booze bus, drug bus and EPA station.

Sorry to hear that Juliette!

As am I. Not happy about being tested near a wall. The letter is in the mail and I've gotta think about how to quieten it down a little. At least I wasn't fined I guess.

Yer that sounds like a load of BS because it say that you must be tested in a clear open environment and the machine must be stable 1m away from the car.....

On the positive side (for U) i had a made get an 600 dollar fine for that and then as he was about to drive out got pulled into the TMU RWC bay lol slapped a major with another 400 for an un roady vechile.

Conclusion: Expensive night out

Ouch. The EPA guy was reasonable about it, said he wasn't going to fine me because my car was otherwise stock mechanically and I had told him that straight up. I suppose having a pleasent attitude towards him helped. While I was going through the formalities the police from the booze bus came over and offered me chocolate (lol)

I'm not disputing my car might be a little bit over (as I mentioned only 1dB over on acceleration in a questionable test environment) but I didn't think it was that much louder on acceleration - they showed me 96dB, but I think that may have had something to do with the sound bouncing off the wall. I've got a while to fix it (I think 28 days from when I receive the letter)? Either way it's over, but not by much. I haven't had any trouble in the last 2-odd years of owning the car.

im from montrose and latly, since yarra tmu moved to lilydale police station there have been so many booze/drug busses with vic roads attached. stealth mode ppl lets keep up the reports of where these vic roads traps are! p.s not in anyway supporting drink driving if u do that you deserve to get caught.

No doubt your lack of round tail lights helped you out :-p

lol but the freaking sound this thing makes is ye...not one a standered magna would make lol

and ye that sucks Juliette. what did it read? and sorry to say this but if it was over the limit when they tested you then you will get a fine in the mail along with a notice to get your car checked and tested again. this is what i went through a while back. got tested at 96db and 1 week later a fine in the mail and notice to get it tested again once returned to stock.

So they are giving out fines with DB tests now? the only epa for noise i've had were those "an officer doesnt like your car and couldn't dick you for anything at the time so here is your epa in the mail" and they never have fines attached

When I'm on Night shift I set up Road Blocks at a certain place on THU/FRI/SAT Nights for RBT site and EVERY time get a drink driver within the first 5 cars. It's all about when and where you set up. It's also scary that 1 in 5 cars over limit at that location around 4 am

    • @GTSBoy This method was able to get readings of -10 to -2, so it looks like its monitoring.  Now I need to figure out why the vacuum on the line provided isn't alternating with manifold pressure.  I went with 2 lines that an RB25 tuner recommended but I'll get a longer hose and try directly off the back of the manifold.  He may have been used to OEM intake setups while I have a DBW setup that removed the MAF and IACV.
    • I work at a car detailing and tinting shop called Quark which gets all manner of German cars in usually (mainly due to a contract with Mercedes Benz Kita Osaka, BMW Nishinomiya and others) but every once in a while something special comes in, like a fully restored 1972 HS30 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG... The shop owner had immediately started applying film to the windows as soon as it was in the shop so the interior was completely covered in towels and plastic sheets. But I could get a few photos of the engine bay which was restored like new. Such an amazing car to see in pristine condition in Japan these days.
    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
