BASHO
I think my car is sold that is I've accepted a rediculously small deposit with the balance being due in folding by 11am tomorrow , and whilst out and about came across a very nice low Ks Mercedes C200 , about which I know bugger all . Does anyone know anything about these cars and have a good , bad or ugly comment on them they'd care to share ? Any thoughts or info would be gratefully received. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/result...e=25&Nne=15 Edited June 3, 2010 by BASHO Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/323376-mercedes-c200/ Share on other sites
Mayuri Krab
If its anything similar to the base model Beemers (ie 318i) then its just a base model Merc which you are mainly paying for the 'brand'. Kujotk
steer away from late 90 eary 2000's, the c class has only gone decent with the current model Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/323376-mercedes-c200/#findComment-5271931 Share on other sites

jaxt
bad/ugly comment: would rather get a newer luxo jap car for the money are you just getting something different or getting a euro for the sake of getting a euro? Kujotk
i'd steer away, the economy mercs of that age were full of gremlins and expensive repairs, besides that the car is over priced, 100k service is due, and they look shocking anyway. Mayuri Krab
bad/ugly comment: would rather get a newer luxo jap car for the moneyare you just getting something different or getting a euro for the sake of getting a euro? Thats my initial thought too. Many family friends (NOT my friends) buys these base model Beemers & Mercs just for the badge. In Chinese Culture driving a Merc or Beemer gives u a 'luxury rich' status... Nothing says 'I can't afford a big Merc' like owning a baseline little one! Thats what I told my mum when she thought about buying some base model 318i, the thing with my case was the family friends don't know sh*t about cars all they see is, 'oh its a Merc/Beemer' the driver must be 'rich'... warps
I'd tend to agree with the above. Whilst I believe tha tthe german cars tend to be very well put together, hence they should be reliable, they can cost big $$ when something goes wrong. My dad's bought several second hand Benzes over the eyars, and all have been good solid cars. The base model stuff just doesn't do it for me. I recently had a CLK200 kompressor for a day (HErtz now do prestige rentals) and I must say I was very underwhelmed by the car. Performance was awful, sounded like a mighty boy and wasn't much to write home about (although my kids loved it because it was a sporty 2 door with a sunroof). The C63 AMG on the other hand is uber desirable and worth every cent of the $150k asking price IMO. I've spent enough time in one to know that these are just fantastic cars - if for no oother reason than that crackly V8 exhaust (the same noise in a Commodore would guarantee to get you defected) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/323376-mercedes-c200/#findComment-5272117 Share on other sites
Ten Four
14k is rediculous. I know of one in Perth, C180 with 56kms from new, FSH sold for 9k through a dealer. BTW, mum had a C280 - good car till she rolled it. FrangaR33
Personally I love the Benz's I grew up with my grandfather driving a 1963 (or there abouts) 230E who then passed it on to my mum and dad its still going today and in brilliant condition especially the interior. Although my wallet would say go for the Japo luxury cruiser, more specifically a V35 Skyline, relatively cheap to buy and parts dont cost an arm and a leg. Or you could have the best of both worlds 1990 190E with a VQ30DET Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/323376-mercedes-c200/#findComment-5272180 Share on other sites
Kujotk
Thats mad Taz lol. Dad had a late 80 300E back in the day, sold it in 1999 with over 300k on the odometre, thats what I mean about getting the older ones or the newer ones and not the economy ones, but one of the rear doors came off around 1998 as we were about to head to a Swannies game. Although the economy mercs since 2005 are well built, but they went through a slump when they introduced the tight ass mercs like the A and C class. The Real mercs like the E, S classes have always been good. Dad now has a CLS and that thing is gangster, it even drives and paralell parks itself.... if it wasnt so big it would actually make a decent daily driver Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/323376-mercedes-c200/#findComment-5272203 Share on other sites

Gunnar_11
Stay well away from the Mercs of the late 90's to about 2005-06. Build quality on them is pretty patchy. The older ones (w124, w140, etc) are great but the first lot of the w200 series (across the board) are what caused Merc to have many unhappy customers. The current ones are back to being good (but still not as good as the over engineered Mercs of old) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/323376-mercedes-c200/#findComment-5277826 Share on other sites

What was I thinking--- Edited June 7, 2010 by BASHO Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/323376-mercedes-c200/#findComment-5278617 Share on other sites
